Rags and Riches Store, one of the largest decorative fabric outlets of its kind on the East Coast, first opened its doors in an old school house in Waitsfield Vermont in 1974. Owners Jon (a law school graduate) and Lee (a registered nurse) Rosenberg, from New York and Massachusetts, respectively, decided to settle in Vermont and try something different. Opening a retail shop, offering dress goods, odd pieces of jewelry, wall hangings, and an assortment of nicknack's allowed them to work and enjoy their surroundings. Rags and Riches was born! As time went on, Rags and Riches evolved into the home decor end of things, specializing in beautiful home decorating fabrics at low, mill outlet pricing. Staying current with the latest trends and styles for the home, Rags and Riches experienced significant growth in the seventies and eighties. The couple relocated the business to South Burlington, where they could display their increasing inventory and more conveniently serve a larger client base. Word of mouth spread and Rags and Riches reputation as THE place for the finest home decorating fabrics at the lowest prices" brought in new customers from all across the United States and Canada. Rags and Riches was quickly creating a "niche" - offering the best variety of decorator fabrics for the home at mill outlet pricing.
