There is nothing quite so challenging as renovating a NYC apartment, and hiring Star allowed us to avoid many headaches. Eli Zikry is the complete package. He is communicative, insightful, and headstrong when needed. He delivered a beautiful finished product, met all of our design needs, did not delay in completing the work, addressed our concerns with respect, managed our interactions with vendors, building management, and neighbors, and did it all for the price we initially agreed on. From the outset, Eli worked with us to develop a scope of work that would leave no surprises. By the end of the project, we had entered only one change order on our fixed-price contract, for an item that we specifically asked for. Eli was willing to negotiate the finer points of the contract that were important to us (my partner is a construction disputes litigator), and he handled a minor payments dispute midway through the project professionally. In an industry where many contractors will threaten to walk off the job as soon as an owner complains, Eli never treated us unfairly. Eli was unflappable when it came to dealing with our building’s management. With so many decisions to make on a project like this, we appreciated how Eli escalated only the most serious problems to us, and how he always took our lead when we decided on a course of action. Eli knows that his clients need to maintain good relationships with their building and neighbors, and he is an excellent ambassador in that regard. Eli also has a keen eye, which is critical on a project that requires many tiny decisions and a coherent design philosophy. He presented us with a complete vision for the apartment, which harmonized all of our inspiration photos with the character of our building and neighborhood. When certain fixtures inevitably became unavailable, or when we inevitably wanted to make minor changes mid-stream, Eli was understanding and cooperative. Best of all, because his contract pricing accounts for such inevitabilities, we never needed a change order to address a sourcing issue or design tweak. Eli also runs a sound business, which relieved a lot of day-to-day stress. Unlike many GCs, who need to hire subcontractors for each trade, Eli subcontracts out only for plumbing and electrical work. Everyone else works for Star, which allows Eli to keep close watch on everything. This is important, since, if you’ve read this far, you recognize that Eli is a perfectionist. He was on site almost daily, sending us photos and keeping us updated. He was also transparent with us about his pricing philosophy and approach to change orders. If this review is short on complaints, that’s a testament to Eli’s transparency and communication at every stage. On a project like this, there were bound to be surprises and setbacks, but we never doubted that Eli was on our team and working to come up with the best solution. In an industry where that is not a given, we will always be thankful that we hired him.

Eli and his team were exceptional to work with on the gut renovation of our 4 bedroom apartment. Starting from the first design meeting, Eli and Marykate immediately understood our vision and taste and executed on it perfectly. The process was completely seamless for us. Even when we had building delays, city delays, or unforeseen circumstances, Eli took charge and solved every problem. The finished project is even more incredible than we imagined. The attention to detail is superb and we have full confidence that this is our forever home. Read on for more detail: This was our first major NYC gut reno (we have done more limited work prior) and our biggest concerns were project delays, incorrect estimates, and contractors that didn’t care or weren’t technically capable once they had the deposit. That’s where Star Renovations comes in - they have really disrupted the “traditional” hire architect+contractor+designer+expediter model by bringing everything together under one roof and maintaining the highest service and quality standards on every aspect of the job. They are very adept at using technology to allow you to make your selections, provide photographic and written status updates every day (which takes endurance and discipline during a 4 month project!) but also maintain a personal service model with the team being hyper responsive to any question or concern. It felt like we were at the job site each day and when stepping in on weekends, the team left everything impeccably clean, had a great relationship w building, and every aspect of the job, even behind the walls and things you do not clearly see were done with a high level of care and detail. Eli was personally involved in every aspect of the project despite him managing a lot of others and I wouldn’t have to seek him out; it was the opposite with him always reaching out w outstanding items or selections so we could move project forward. The project timeline, cost and plan was clearly outlined up front and projections generally hit. Despite us adding a voluntary change order, a new appliance required, and a mandatory electrical box upgrade once walls were opened, we were generally in line with cost estimates. The additional work we asked for would add 2 weeks to the timeline typically, but Eli was able to seamlessly integrate the extra two weeks of work with other work streams and still delivered the whole project a week in advance. Amazing feat , especially in a very supply and labor constrained environment. Eli clearly trains and takes very good care of his staff because they were all happy, exceptional to deal with, and whenever we were on site, we saw a well choreographed and laser focused ballet of the 10+ workers handling multiple jobs. Any project will have unforeseen issues come up and what we loved about Eli is 1) he’s not afraid to deliver tough news or bring up issues immediately, 2) he always has 2-3 creative solutions for each problem vs only spend-more-money, and 3) ethically, he would never do something that is unsafe or not up to his high standards. The latter is critical in any contractor but sometimes rare. Would 100% use Eli again. The only contractor in NYC you will ever need!

We hired Eli and his team to do a full gut renovation of our new 3 bedroom 3 bath apartment, where we did not leave a single room untouched. When I first spoke with him, Eli laid out the process end-to-end and emphasized the importance of planning upfront, which I fully appreciated. Throughout the process, Eli and Marykate took care of all the logistics (design, permitting, coordinating with the building, etc.) so that all we had to worry about was selecting the various finishes. In the middle of construction, we unfortunately had to redesign a couple of bathrooms when the team discovered issues when the walls were opened up, but they alerted us quickly and walked us through options so that we could come up with a solution together to keep things on schedule. Also, given supply chain issues due to COVID, some of our original selections were not available, but every time this happened, Eli and Marykate were quick to offer alternatives. Overall because of the careful planning and attention to the logistics, our project finished a full month ahead of schedule. A gut renovation can be stressful at the best of times, but because of the exceptional services provided by Eli, Marykate, and their team, we were able to able to get our dream apartment with minimal stress. I would (and already have) highly recommend Star Renovations to any of my friends who need to do renovations.

We are so glad we chose Star Renovations NY for the renovation of our Upper West Side Apartment. From the beginning Eli and his team were there to help us navigate a difficult board approval, procure all permits, insurance and paperwork, and work with building management to get our plan approved and moving. While we originally had only planned to renovate our kitchen, we felt so confident in Star's quality of work that we expanded our renovation to include new doors and moulding, overhead lighting, built in cabinetry, new fixtures and finishes, a refresh of our bathroom and refinishing of our floors. The work was completed ahead of schedule and the BuilderTrend app they use kept us up to date on daily progress and payments. The finished product was every bit as beautiful as we had hoped and we had absolutely no complaints from building management or our neighbors which is critical when living in a Co-Op apartment building. We've worked with Eli for the past 7 months in getting our kitchen gut renovated. As with anyone undertaking a home remodel over the last 24 months, we've had to deal with all the delays in city permitting, appliance/material deliveries, etc. Star Renovation manage all facets of the project to make sure every work stream continued to push forward as fast as possible despite all the uncontrollable headwinds we faced. They were highly flexible in adjusting to various change orders and other on-the-fly tweaks to the project as we went on. The overall execution of our project was spot-on and was very well worth the wait! We recommend Eli and the entire Star team to anyone looking to make a transformational remodel to their home.

Working with Eli and his team was my first experience with NYC Co-op Construction and it was truly a great experience. Construction is intimidating and then you add the NYC co-op factor on top and it can seem overwhelming. Eli and his team are so responsive, so helpful, so organized and so knowledgeable about construction that the process was painless. I am overwhelmingly pleased with the end result, the kitchen is beautiful. The final product speaks for itself. Eli and his team are problem solvers and they work with you until you are happy with your selections. The system they use and their process are fantastic and I was able to undergo full kitchen renovation while living in another country during the entire design and construction process! There are daily logs and photo updates that feel like presents at the end of the day. I really can't say enough positive things about the experience, especially because they made the whole process so approachable and manageable for a first time NYC renovator.

We selected Star Renovations for our kitchen project after meeting with numerous potential contractors and deciding that we trusted Eli the most and had the most confidence in his ability to do a great job. His attention to detail and vision for the space were exceptional. He brought careful consideration and thoughts to the project that many others did not. We also had a great experience working with Mary Kate on the design for the space, she has a sharp eye for general aesthetics and combinations of materials that work. She presented us with numerous appealing options and was patient as we worked through the selection process. Due to unanticipated issues inside our co-op building, we ultimately weren't able to complete our project, through no fault at all of Eli. We would work with him again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend him to others looking for kitchen renovations.

Eli, Marykate, and the rest of the team at STAR did a great job on our renovation. We had a large project which involved completely remodeling our kitchen, building new ceilings with soundproofing, and rebuilding our closets. They worked very hard to complete our job on time, and the final result looks amazing, plus the sound proofing really works well. STAR Renovations was very organized and handled a lot of complex tasks for our job, which required modifications to our sprinkler system, plumbing, and electrical wiring. They were very accommodating to our unique requests, and did many extra favors around our apartment such as fixing our thermostat and installing missing trim. We were pleased with the communication between us, and it was great to get regular updates and progress photos. STAR really did great work for us and we love our new home.

After interviewing many General Contractors, hearing a lot of 'talk', and receiving many bids, the stress and insecurity mounted. It was Eli at Star Renovations NY who gave me the peace and comfort to make me want to move forward. I believed that he was able to take my vision and make it a reality. He listened. After bringing forward his design, he listened to my comments and made the changes I wanted all throughout the process. His team of workers were all very respectful, answered my questions, and did a wonderful job. I am in awe of the finished product (Kitchen and Bathroom), and my friends, remembering what was there prior, haven't stopped raving from the pictures I sent. I am very happy, and every time I step into my shower, or use the kitchen, I get filled with joy.

When I hired Star, I got the impression that Eli would be willing to go the extra mile to make the job progress seamlessly and they would take the time to do the work right. Not only did they help design and built a top quality kitchen, but they completed the job extremely fast. I hired Star shortly before the NYC shutdown halted construction work for two months and had to go through the entire design process digitally using photos and the guidance of Michelle. Without being able to see samples for cabinets, tiles etc. in person, I deferred to her and Eli's guidance many times during the design process and I'm glad that I did. The design input they provided made a huge impact and Eli had several small suggestions during construction which ultimately made the entire apartment much more livable. They were meticulous about documenting daily activity, maintaining a clean worksite and continually provided photo updates. I'm very happy with the quality of work, design and communication.

I highly recommend Eli and Star Renovations. They just finished renovating my Tribeca apartment and it looks outstanding. I call Eli “ The OCD Contractor”, but is an extreme compliment. Eli is very hands on and is on top of every single detail. I have worked with other contractors in the past. but no one comes close to matching Eli’s knowledge, organization and work effort. It is rare that the consumer lags behind the contractor, but it is seriously very hard to keep up with Eli. He is easy to work with and fulfills all his promises, whether it be in the actual work performed or when it comes to deadlines. I highly endorse Eli and his entire crew. Buying and remodeling your first home can be one of the more stressful experiences as you want everything to be perfect. Even without a global pandemic, there are bound to be unexpected surprises. Eli and his team exceeded expectations in quality and time of delivery. As Eli has told me, that I’m a bit of a perfectionist, but he never hesitated to come back and do additional work to make sure my expectations were met. Despite a global pandemic, Eli was able to get the apartment nearly complete and move-in ready a month ahead of schedule which really gave me comfort in a chaotic time. Would highly recommend

I hired Star renovation to remodel my bathroom and replace my flooring in my 1 bedroom co-op. After interviewing a variety of contractors for my project I have selected Eli because he seemed to be the most knowledgeable and helpful in understanding what I want, and more importantly providing me with creative ideas to maximize the layout and space in this small Manhattan bathroom. Star offered me a full service renovation where not only did they do a fantastic job, but they also did most of the heavy lifting in terms of the design work and helping me with all the finish material for this project. While we had some delays with my slow co-op board, once the project started it was smooth sailing and Eli was always available at all times and days of the week (seriously including weekends!!). I would strongly recommend Star and would advise anyone that is looking to renovate their space, but don't have the time to manage and design the space themselves to seriously consider Eli and Star, you will not regret it!

We hired star renovations for a condo we had just purchased in soho . The bathrooms needed a complete renovation and we were anxious about stepping into a new endeavor that we knew nothing about as first time homeowners. We had interviewed a couple firms but after speaking with star renovations , it seemed that they had everything in perfect order and were willing to walk us through every step of the way .
