We previously had A-1 Remodeling by Randall J. Smith, LLC reconstruct and enlarge our existing deck. The result was exceptional, impressive, magnificent and outright superior. In one short phrase, A-1’s work was A-1! Before we purchased our house, the attached “garage” had been converted into a family room. We consistently had a problem with the original brick steps between the two levels which were uneven in height and had a wide lip we tripped over. One of the first things we did was add a handrail to give us some stability and it worked fine at first but as we got older and less steady, the more those stairs became a hazard. One thing we had wanted to do since moving into this house a few years ago was replace the old deck on the back of the house. Being an “elderly gent” who hung up his tool belt years ago, we decided to have the job done for us. We talked with a few but the one who impressed us the most was Mr. Billy Wheeler of A-1 Remodeling by Randall J Smith. We explained what we wanted (which included an extension of the new deck and relocation of the stairs) and Billy ran with the project. The first thing we received were professional drawings of the project and a “complete” description of work to be done, from demolition to materials to be used, labor involved, our additional “wants” and cleanup. We knew that A-1 Remodeling would be our choice. Next, we were introduced to the construction team led by Mr. Earl Holmes. A date was set… all we had to do is sit back and watch the work being done. Earl was a hands-on supervisor who made sure the work was done to the highest standards. He inspected every aspect of the job; it was obvious he insisted on the highest quality and his team carried that out. He interacted with us on a daily basis to make sure the work was meeting our expectations. Billy was on site near daily inspecting the progress of the build and keeping us informed as to the schedule and what to be done. Earl and his team were absolutely positive people to work with as they were determined to give us everything we wanted. From start to finish, we are so happy that we chose A-1 Remodeling. We are absolutely thrilled by the new deck. In our opinion, if you want the job done and want it done right, it’s A-1 Remodeling for the job.

We just completed a large 100k project with A-1. This project was led by Harold from quote to finish. Listen to my words!!!! In ANY construction project, there will always be 'road bumps', sub's that make a few errors, re-works, disagreements etc... I will quote the words of A-1 and Harold himself..."Our #1 goal is that you are happy with the job, and we will do whatever it takes to get there" A-1 is not just fast talk, they are down to earth 'Real People' that care more about their customers than all those contractors turning a fast buck. To them its about people, their dreams, their homes and families. You can get all the bids you want, you can grab the cheapest offer, you can go with a bigger mass construction business, but when ANY small or big issue arises, (unforseen or expected) cause it will happen in any project, you are going to wish you had A-1 on the Job, because many of these contractors will fast talk you and are driven by $$$$ only, A-1 is driven by your happiness and the relationship, because they know THAT translates to future business, word of mouth, and relationships. The right way to manage a bottom line!!! This was a 100k job, but I can assure you whether its 100k or 5k, these guys will make you feel like you are their only and most important customer the entire time!!! FYI.. never met or knew of them till that day I googled 'great contractors in Chattanooga' and glad I did

I have used many contractors over the years. This one is by far and away the worse. The people who sign you up apparently have little or no control over those who actually do the job. After two attempts they did manage to fix a roof leak. Took several phone calls to keep them motivated. I am still waiting for the builder to finish the job and pick up the left over mess. I just hope the rest of you have had better luck with them.

I would not recommend because I have had him come out to give me an estimate twice and he never follows through. Its just a waste of time and energy. Very nice guys; I just don't know why he doesn't follow through with quotes. At least be honest and say we can't do your job because we're too busy or it's too complicated but don't leave people hanging! Not very professional.
