Five Star Painting never returned to fix the terrible paint job they did in December of 2014. The workers were difficult (and uncooperative) to communicate with. When the job was supposedly finished, we called and complained to the owner, Buddy Rhoades, and asked him to send a different crew to redo the job because we were unhappy with the inferior quality of the paint job and with the uncooperative attitude of the first crew. Mr. Rhoades then sent the same workers over to our home to try again. After a period of time, the paint began to chip on the woodwork and peel on the plaster walls, so we called the owner again. He came over to inspect the job with a representative from the paint company, Sherwin Williams, and he agreed to redo the paint job. Our last email from him is dated March 14, 2017, when he was getting in touch with us to schedule a date to do the work, which he called a "touch-up". For the record, this is much more than a "touch-up". We were going to be out of town on the date he scheduled, so we emailed him it that it could not be done that day and gave him a list of other times. After that, he never come back to do the work nor did he return our messages. This has been going on now for four years and the paint continues to peel and chip. We are both disappointed and extremely unhappy. The bottom line is that the workers did not properly prepare the woodwork or the walls, and we speculate that they may have even used watered down paint. The entire paint job looks terrible and it is going to cost us a fortune to have someone scrape, sand, clean, prepare the woodwork & walls and repaint. This is the responsibility of Five Star Painting of Roanoke Valley because they were paid to do the job and have never completed it.

ProTect Painters did a great job. They provided me with an estimate right away. They were able to start the project immediately and completed it quickly. They were very helpful in suggesting the type of paint we should use and matching the color to what I wanted. They remained in contact by phone and email throughout the project. I was very pleased with the quality of the paint and the quality of the work.

Our painting job was done 100% on schedule and was very professionally done. Buddy was totally responsive, with phone calls returned the same day. 100% satisfied.

ProTect Painters did an excellent job. They painted our master bedroom and two bathrooms. They arrived on time and completed the job quicky and everything looks great! I would definitely hire them again.qa

Personally, I am not one to provide "reviews" but after getting multiple emails over the past 2 years, I decided it was time to share my opinion with potential customers of ProTect Painters so the same thing does not happen to you!
In the Summer of 2014, we talked with Paul Rhodes and his salesman, Tracy Butt and had them come out and look at our large screened-in porch and outdoor bridge to power wash, restain and rescreen the porch. We were told that they used only Sherwin Williams stains/paints because they were "the best." We were impressed with their knowledge and professionalism and immediately hired them to complete our project. In talking with Tracy, we decided to go with a paint instead of a stain on our wood as he suggested this would last longer but not look much different. This would be our first mistake!
Their third party painting contractor came out soon after to get started on the project. We were never told that there would be an entirely different company working with Paul Rhodes so this was a surprise. This third party contractor was very professional and did great work, in hindsight, I wish we had hired him ourselves instead of working through ProTect Painters. This would be our second mistake!
On the day when the crew was ready to start painting, they showed up with the wrong color paint, according to Tracy, who was there on site. He wanted them to quickly change out the paint so he sent them to nearby Lowe's to get the correct color. I questioned at the time why they did not go to Sherwin Williams to replace the paint, but figured they were the professionals not me. This was yet another mistake!
Once the painting was complete and the screened-in porch had been rescreened, the project looked great. We were told to stay off of the wood for at least 24 hours to let it dry. As an entire weekend went by, we were still "staying off" the wood as it was tacky to the touch. After four days, we thought we would go ahead and place the porch furniture back on the porch only to find out that the furniture stuck to the paint and the paint peeled where the furniture had been placed.
We called Tracy to come back out and take a look and he agreed that after more than a week, the paint was still sticky and should not be this way. Tracy then had Paul Rhodes come back out and take a look, he agreed that something was not right. After a few weeks, Paul and Tracy returned with a representative from Lowe's who also agreed that something was not right with the paint.
At this point, winter was approaching and we agreed to revisit the issue in the Spring of 2015. Paul Rhodes said he would have his crew come back out and repaint the surface of the porch (not the entire porch) as well as the surface of the bridge. In the Spring, Paul Rhodes once again started his process of bringing Lowe's and the paint manufacturer back out, each time blaming them and their paint brand for being a mistake.
On our end, we talked with other painting professionals who suggested that it be completely redone at their expense. It was suggested to us that Paul Rhodes never used "porch paint" because normal porch paint would not have left the tacky feel.
Here we are, tomorrow is January 2016, and Paul Rhodes has yet to take personal responsibility and correct the problem. He didn't have a problem charging us for his mistake or trying to blame it on the paint. In our opinion, that "quick trip" to Lowe's on the day painting was set to begin was Paul Rhodes' mistake, he had said himself that they only used "the best paint from Sherwin Williams."

I hired Rhoades Restoration to paint the outside of my house after taking bids from four companies. They were the lowest bid and were worth every penny and more. They started in time, finished on time, cleaned up after themselves every day and left my house and property looking better than when they started.
This project is now six years old and one cannot tell. It looks as good today as it did the day after they finished. They did not scrimp on material quality or time to prepare my house before painting.
If you want a quality job, done ontime, and in budget hire Buddy Rhoades. They get the job done right!

We called Buddy Rhoades one morning and by afternoon he was personally at our home discussing the restaining of our older contemporary home. He was helpful in his suggestions. We decided to stain a few shades lighter and he assured us that he could accomplish this. He was quick to get back to us on his quote. His crew was great. They were hard-working and respectful. My husband and I were very satisfied with the job and have recommended Buddy to others.

My experience was very positive. The scope of work was completed and met my expectations. Rhoades Restoration was very diligent in making sure I was completely satisfied, and I can be difficult to please. They were very clean and organized during the project, which took over a week to complete. I was very impressed and will definitely use their services again.
