Superior Wall Painters / Inferior Cabinet Painter / Massive Paint Over-Charge
Henry and his crew did an excellent job painting wall/ceiling/trim. They were professional and Henry had creative ideas that made our home shine. They also cleaned up their mess daily. I recommend Henry for ALL your painting needs.
The cabinet painter did an awful job -- streaks, drips, brush strokes, areas not covered, etc. When we complained to the owner, Alex, he said the brush strokes were already there, and that the cabinets were in bad condition. We asked if they were, why didn't you inform us so we could have come up with another option? No response to that. Alex and the painter did return for a couple of hours to try to fix the problems.
After they left, Alex sent us an invoice and called to settle up, however I hadn’t seen the cabinets yet. My husband suggested that we pay for the bulk of the work immediately, which included the house painters, etc and after I saw the cabinets the following day, we’d settle on the rest. Alex responded "No Mr. Bowman, you're gonna pay me today. He wanted ALL his money, but we didn't pay it. When my husband requested the military discount, Alex responded "You've gotten all the discount you're going to get" and did not give it to us. Also, on the invoice was a charge (amount not discussed) for $600 for two rooms -- Alex said they required an extra coat. We settled on $300 even though he told my husband previously that there was only one room. Mind you, the ceiling, doors and trim obviously didn't require an additional coat.
After checking the re-work of the cabinets, they still were not satisfactory because the problems were consistent throughout much of cabinets. The cabinet painting cost $3700. We found another cabinet painter who quoted us $730 to fix the problems, but Alex refused to refund it without any consideration.
The worst part was the paint overcharge. We told Alex prior to work, that Sherwin Williams had a military discount 15%, but he told us “I can get you a much better discount with my contractor discount, if I purchase the paint.” When we requested paint receipts (we’d already paid him in advance, separately), he ignored it. After several requests, he finally gave us a print out, NOT a receipt. We then went to Sherwin Williams and the clerk looked so surprised when we told him that Alex said the paint cost $3,000. Eventually, we told Alex to settle we need two things: The receipts and $730 for the cabinets. Alex gave us receipts
