Ian Stallings

We have collaborated with Ian Stallings Design for nearly a decade. Ian is one of the most creative designers we've had the opportunity of working with. He's thoughtful in his design process, and always a pleasure to deal with. We have worked on a number of custom furniture pieces that have turned out beautifully.

The level of professionalism demonstrated by Ian Stallings is paramount to any other designer with whom I’ve worked. After seeing the work of other designers, I decided to hire Ian to re-design my San Francisco apartment; two bedrooms and two full baths, as it was evident that Ian’s work exhibited a creative depth that reflected not only Ian’s aesthetics, but more importantly, the individual personalities of his clients. When designing my apartment, Ian far exceeded my expectations. Through dialogue, patience, and careful observation, Ian was able to take my vision and through to reality. Ian has a skilled eye for detail. He has an incredible talent for mixing patterns, colors, and textures thereby creating multidimensional and interesting rooms. The space that Ian creates is not only visually pleasing, but appeals to the senses as walking into a room designed by Ian surely elicits an emotional response that allows one to feel regal, beautiful, and glamorous. Even more impressive than his talent however, was Ian’s desire to please his clients. Ian was very easy to work with. He has a kind demeanor that allows one to feel at ease when discussing ideas or concerns. It is evident that Ian’s priority is not just his work product, but the experience his clients have with Ian Stallings Design. I would highly recommend Ian to anyone based on the relationship that developed alone; as the talent and skill is self-evident, but to work with and to know Ian is an absolute privilege.

Ian has an incredible ability to create designs that reflect the client's personality and aesthetic. He understood my underlying visual themes, colors, and aspirations--often better than I did--and created beautiful, coherent designs based on those themes. Ian is also sensitive to budgets--keeping cost in mind at all times, spending judiciously in certain areas to allocate resources for big impact pieces in other areas. He also did a remarkable job of keeping some of my rooms nearly as-is, but adding small changes (a light here, a set of throw pillows there; moving curtains from one room to another) to completely transform the space so that those rooms looked much more complete and harmonious without entirely re-doing them. Ian is great about timing as well, typically delivering ahead of schedule. Finally, Ian has a very engaging and positive personality, so he's a lot of fun to work with!

Ian is a highly talented designer who has a wonderful personal touch with his clients. He did the design for my three bedroom / two level Buena Vista / Lower Haight condo. At the beginning of the project, Ian invested time to get to know me in order to understand my tastes/likes/dislikes, etc. His working style is very collaborative. He came up with design ideas, he would run them past me, and I would discuss them with him and convey to him what I liked and disliked, and eventually I would (with his assistance) come to a decision. He offers his opinions, but he does not pressure his clients, and he always gives options and alternatives. His design ideas, without fail, are beautiful, innovative and smart. He was also sensitive about my budget, and he was flexible about my desire to do the work in phases. I love the design that Ian created, and I enjoy living in it every day. It is visually striking but also extremely comfortable. And Ian is always a pleasure to talk to and work with. I have recommended him to a number of my friends.

When I purchased my mid-centruy condo I hired Ian to design the space for me. I love mid-century, but did not want it to look like a vintage store. Ian took the mid-century aesthetic and updated it with a mix of items both contemporary and vintage. He chose some really striking wall papers for 2 feature walls that really make a statement. He also chose furnishings in different textiles and hide to make the space sumptuous and luxurious. He also took care to consider that I own a dog and entertain regularly, and included storage plans in his design. He made my home beautiful and functional.

Ian stallings is a very talented designer who one would be lucky to meet. His energy is addictive and his lifelong love for interiors is evident in his work. He has so many good ideas and is a great problem solver. Most importantly I think, from his background in painting, he has a natural passion for materials, colour palettes, and textures. He has done great work in our London home, I would highly recommend him - once you meet him, you will understand!

Ian has a beaming personality that is truly magnetic. We have had the pleasure of assisting Ian with quite a few of his projects over the past eight years at Robollo Home. He always knows what he wants, and after viewing our inventory online, he will make a special trip over to our store to sit on the sofa that he has in mind, check the lighting to see how it looks in a room, or have a close look at the artwork before they install it in his client's home. Ian is an inspiration to so many of us, and we look forward to work with him on future projects.

I truly enjoy working with Ian. He has assisted me with several development projects to date. He has a great eye and works well within the budget he is presented with. I would recommend him to anyone that is looking to work with a designer with great taste and attention to detail.

We have hired Ian for two projects to day: fully furnishing our new home in California and furnishing my business office In London after our recent move to the UK. Ian, who was recommended to us by a number of friends, and who we subsequently recommended to others, has done an absolutely fabulous job on both occasions, showing a tremendous ability to take some rough direction from us regarding our preferred style and turning our former home (and my current office) into something unique, stylish and yet practicable. Beyond being an extraordinary designer, Ian is also a wonderful person to work with -- pleasant, flexibly, timely and sincere. We really can't recommend him enough.

Ian Stallings is a genius! His ability to interpret my style and taste was remarkable. Every room has a color story that brings the expansive views of the San Francisco Bay to your attention. The fabrics and finishes on the furniture are exquisite, too. Probably my favorite moment is the entry way. The walls are silver leafed. AMAZING. Then Ian found lovely displays of iridescent butterflies to shimmer on those silver walls. MORE AMAZING. Ian was also very easy to work with. He had the keys and made everything happen. I didn't have to worry about people coming and going. His firm took care of all of the logistics. This included rebuilding a wall to support an extremely heavy mirror that is also a television (65" stunner)! I would hire Ian Stallings again in a second. In fact, I am looking for a second home and will hire him for that project without a doubt!

I love Ian Stallings, he is simply the most fabulous designer I have come across. Not only did he anticipate my needs and make my elaborate and sometimes wide-eyed dreams a reality but he also worked on an extremely efficient time frame. He was able to turn my bare bones apartment into a magnificent home that anyone I know would envy. His work is truly masterful. As the leader of a tremendous team, Ian will bring your world into focus by balancing all things beautiful to bring true shape and meaning into your home. He focuses on the impression, feeling, and comfort of your space to truly bring the best design home for you. He has turned my marina cove into an elegant and sophisticated suite. Ian is by far one of the best designers and I will be singing his praises for years to come. I highly recommend him as he excels in customer service while exceeding the best of expectations. Ian's designs are truly magnificent and my life has been blessed because I get to spend my time in the art of his design and creation. Thank you so much Ian!!

Ian designed and planned out a new room for us in our Nob Hill flat. At the same time he updatied all of our other rooms. His work is beautiful. I would highly recommend his design business, it's wonderful aesthetic and professional staff.
