Kathy Shaffer Architecture & Design AIA is an architecture and interior design firm based in Sausalito California providing services nationwide. The firm was founded by Kathryn Shaffer, AIA: an NCARB certified architect since 1989, licensed in California, Hawaii, Texas and Connecticut. The firm’s philosophy is to create functional designs and implement the design and construction in a way that promotes environmental stewardship and respects preservation of historic structures. The firm, and it’s founder’s previous experience, covers interior, exterior, and whole building design, engineering, and management of commercial, residential, retail, and public architecture. Shaffer worked for several notable architectural and engineering firms from 1984-2004. Projects Shaffer designed or co-designed have won 2 International awards, 4 AIA CNY awards, 1 AIA Gulf States award, and the AIACC Nathaniel A. Owings Award. Shaffer’s work and her work at other architectural firms have been featured in Architectural Digest, Golf Magazine, The Nineteenth Hole, Travel + Leisure Golf, and Architecture South. Because of the long design and construction cycle for major projects, she continues to win awards and recognition for projects she did while working for other architectural firms.

We hired Kathy Shaffer to design an addition to our house, and redesign an outbuilding into an office/workshop. Kathy was proffessional, listened to our needs, and provided us with creative solutions. We would be happy to work with her again, and highly reccomend her.

In establishing my new business, one of the requirements for the business permit required architectual drawings of the location, prior to the business license being issued. Another set of drawings was required by the local fire department as well. Ms. Shaffer was extremely helpful and highly competent. She arrived at the appointments on time, and clearly took the time to learn the local government requirements for architectual drawings specific to my type of business. Her attention to detail expedited the issuance of my business license. The local government agencies complimented the completeness of the architectual drawings and stated it was highly unusual to not require a business applicant to resubmit three to four times. For my next business or residential architectual needs, Kathy Shaffer Architecture and Design is the first and most likely the only firm I'll ever work with in the future.
