We reached out to Patrick to help us redesign our backyard. We were basically starting with a blank canvas and Patrick helped us bring our vision to life. He was incredibly helpful along the way and would give us good, honest recommendations on all aspects of the project. He was professional and responded in a timely manner. Once we actually started construction Patrick was there along the way to answer any of our questions or the landscape contractors questions. He was involved from the very beginning to the very end, over the six month period from design to project complete job. I would 100% recommend Patrick for all of your landscape design needs and already told him we would be using him again when the time comes to redo our front yard.

Thanks entirely to Patrick (PLdesigns), our completely revamped front yard is “magic” ... his vision has absolutely exceeded our expectation. After living in our home for nearly 30 years, the desire for a drought tolerant front yard to better benefit the environment became our intent. Our yard gently sloped toward the street and consisted of a large area of grass, one coral tree and a couple of hedges. Initially, we attempted to conceptualize a design plan ourselves. For months, we talked, researched and drove through endless area neighborhoods for inspiration. Subsequently, we compiled a list of landscape components we liked; however, we were completely “paralyzed” as to how to string them together. Enter Patrick (PLdesigns). He reached out almost immediately and scheduled a date to meet with us at the house. At that first meeting, we walked the front yard with him and expressed our wishes. Patrick was quick to absorb everything we discussed and came back with a design that not only incorporated our requests but also weaved in wonderful landscape design elements that only a talented designer could have suggested. Remember the yard that used to “gently slope toward the street?” It now has its own perfectly placed hill upon which a multi-trunked olive tree sits with a dry creek bed winding its way alongside the base of the perfectly placed hill, bee, butterfly and bird loving plants are tucked into stunningly perfect locations, a low wall made of stucco sits up and into the yard a little just to the right and left of the walkway leading up to the front door crowned with a simple fence top that consists of a wooden frame strung with coated wire so as not to block the beauty of the yard from in front nor behind it and there’s a sweet arbor which was built to perfection “right in front of our eyes” holding a climbing vine whose job is to greet all who pass by underneath as they head closer to the house. Patrick continued to monitor and assist in the project beyond completion/acceptance of his design but also as the contractor company began their work. That was amazing of him and so helpful to us!! Creating a compelling and comprehensive landscape design for our new home in Ventura, CA was critical for us and PLdesigns was our fantastic partner from concept to completion, producing beautiful results that we love. Our goal was to create a livable outdoor space from front to back, with clean lines, defined spaces, and contemporary hardscape and softscape elements. Patrick attentively worked with us, drilling down the specifics of our rough ideas, needs, and aspirations through conversation and questions, and then took careful measurements and aerial and ground level photos of the existing space. He was easy to talk to, iterate on ideas with, and genuinely understood our intent and goals. PLdesign's process produced a detailed working design that we were able to review, discuss, and make adjustments to with Patrick, resulting in a plan that included granular detail of measurements and materials that we could take to contractors for accurate bids. A complete vision to build. Support continued through to project completion with selected contractors, making frequent on-site walkthroughs to assure work was aligning with the approved plan, as well as reacting to and providing consultation on details, questions, and changes that arose during implementation of the design. PLdesigns was outstanding through our entire project. Deep understanding of a client's creative intent, needs, and style are key; they deliver. Being accessible and responsive to questions and ongoing needs while the plan is being built is essential; they deliver. I contacted Patrick because we wanted to remove a slope of ivy that ran the length of our front yard and up one side, and wanted to see what he would recommend as replacement. After an on site introduction meeting and review of our entire yard, he shared some first impression ideas that really captured my imagination and went a bit beyond just the slope, so that everything would tie together. I really liked his process and ideas so we hired him. We loved the initial plan he presented back and all his choices for plants - a wonderful variety of textures, colors, and variety that really captured our house/property and even tied in with our back yard. He has a wonderful process of collaboration, revisions and approval. He even sent out the bid to 4 firms and help me select the best choice for installation. I knew I would like if from the plans but I didn't expect to love it so much! It's just an amazing transformation and so much more than I could have imagined. All our neighbors stop and comment on it when they walk by.

Professional, Knowledgeable, Accommodating, Supportive Patrick at PL Designs really helped us take an idea and concept to a reality. My wife and I were ready to transform our small overgrown, 1970’s backyard into a modern comfortable space for entertaining. We had a direction, but we needed help. That is when Patrick came over sat down and took our ideas and created a design that was exactly what we had hoped for. During the ideas and concept phase, Patrick was very patient and easy to work with. We felt he really listen to our priorities and weaved them into the design. He also kept us in line and was not afraid to say what was not possible within the space that we had to work with. Patrick was very knowledgeable about the different plants and trees that would work well for our location, sun exposure, and intended use. He also knew the city codes and rules to ensure the design would pass inspection. After completing the design, Patrick provided possible contractors for quotes. He just didn’t move on to the next design, Patrick followed up with us several times during construction and offered to clarify anything with the design to ensure the contractors were 100% clear. We were contemplating the style of concrete, and Patrick brought by some samples to consider, which was extremely helpful. We would recommend PL Designs to anyone and everyone who has an idea but needs a design and detailed plans to take the idea into a concept that can then be constructed into reality.

I highly recommend PLdesigns. I almost didn’t hire a landcape architect for my project and I am so glad I did. Patrick totally got my taste - clean and modern, not too ornate - and I love how he transformed my entryway. I get so many compliments on my new hardscape and landscaping, especially the lighting which looks so beautiful at night.
