DuBridge Landscape Architecture

Kourtney and I cannot express how thrilled we are with the work Dubridge Landscape Architecture and Design did in transforming our home. While our house sits on an acre of land, it is set against a hill, so we were concerned that we didn't enough flat space to entertain or spend time outside. We considered moving, but decided to call Steve Dubridge based on the recommendation of our landscaper who had witnessed Steve's work for another client. Upon surveying our land and soliciting our input around key design goals, Steve put a plan in place. We knew we were in good hands based on Steve's attention to detail and thoughtful approach to adjusting plans based on our concerns. The overall project encompassed the front and back of our house, building a patio, bbq area, and shade structure, grading the hill with retaining walls, and installing a lawn. Steve also designed a new staircase in the front of the house. Steve planned for accent lighting throughout the front and back yard, and selected plants. Our entire home has been completely transformed. We spend so much more time outdoors. Throughout the entire process, we were at ease knowing that Steve's perfectionism was at work ensuring flawless execution of his vision. Steve also helped us settle on outdoor lighting, a fire pit design, stain color for the shade structure. It's obvious that Steve takes great pride in delivering the very highest quality work, and we cannot say enough great things about Dubridge Landscape Architecture and Design.

We hired Steve to do a complete overhaul of our front and back yard. Before talking to him the first time, we already had a pretty detailed idea of what we wanted. Still, Steve came up with a lot of ideas we would never had thought about and has an outstanding skill to see the whole picture. After starting with both hardscaping and landscaping, it turned out that his ideas totally made the difference! We already got a lot of compliments from our neighbors for the design of our front yard. It's a pleasure to work with Steve not only because he has such a great taste, but also because he's always very responsive and helpful. He did not just hand over plans to us, he is still very engaged during the process of implementing the plans. As soon everything is completed, I'll upload pictures of both front and back yard.

We enjoyed our design process with Steve. He listens carefully to your criteria, identifies your style, and steers you away from "disastrous" ideas. He is patient, polite and prompt in communication. His design is meticulous, often adding minute graceful touches that distinguishes my backyard elements from my neighbor's. There is a harmonious balance of proportions, textures and articulation that coalesces the backyard with my home. His passion and dedication to a project is illustrated in his many trips to the project site during installation. I recommend Dubridge Landscape if you are looking for a smooth design and installation process, especially if you don't have sufficient time to supervise every detail.

We hired Steve to hardscape and landscape our backyard both in a previous house and our new house. We cannot be more thrilled with the end results! His attention to detail and design is incredible. He was able to transform our backyard into a beautiful outdoor living space we feel so lucky to have. We showed him elements we wanted and he incorporated them all to create our final project. Steve met with us on multiple occasions and rendered several plans before finalizing the design. He adjusted the plans as needed to compensate for appliances, aesthetic quality, and sun patterns. Our last home incorporated a stunning fish pond with waterfall amidst lush greenery and pleasing landscape. Our current home now boasts an old world look including built in back yard kitchen, pool with waterfalls and drought tolerant landscaping. We could not be happier! One last thing- the buyer of our last house said the reason they wanted our home was because the backyard was like stepping into heaven!

Working with Steve to design a landscaping plan was very easy as he was very accommodating. He provided much guidance and insight to landscape design. He values insight from the home owner and educated us every step of the way. His ability to create a vision and then to translate to a design was incredible. Not only did he design a make-over for the front and back yard but sourced a fountain, bench, building materials, plants and canvas awnings for the front door and windows that I hadn’t even considered but were exactly the touch to add dimension and underscore the Santa Barbara look I was after. We cannot find enough wonderful things to say about DuBridge Landscape Architecture! You have just designed an incredible overhaul of our backyard and we could not be happier. From our first meeting with you and the way that you listened to what we wanted and came back to us with plans beyond our dreams, we knew we had chosen wisely. The design of our swimming pool and outdoor kitchen is breathtaking. The custom waterfall above the pool, along with the hidden grotto chair is unbelievable. We love the various flowerbeds you created along with the unique shapes of them. Using our existing, large natural stones throughout the yard was great! The plants along with all the lighting you strategically placed throughout the backyard are amazing. The light hanging down from our giant redwood, shining on our BBQ is one of our favorites. Who would of thought of doing that, only you Steve! Although we had slight changes along the way, you were always there thinking of a way to make us happy, but still keeping the elegance going. It was great to have you there as the rocks were being formed. Out there in your dirty jeans with your sculpting tools really showed us that you cared and were 100% dedicated to our backyard. Hi Steve, Karin and I are happy to provide this letter of recommendation to whomever may be interested regarding your professional landscape architectural design service. During the construction of our home, Karin and I knew we had a unique site with great potential. A 9,400 sq. ft. home within 6/10 of an acre is a total challenge to site and landscape properly. As expected, as the house took shape, backburner issues like landscape design became paramount, such as; the proper driveway alignment, its impact on the front entry, how do we handle the important side yard and in the already tight backyard that needed a pool, outdoor kitchen and a place to eat; these all became important concerns for us. Steve DuBridge of DuBridge Landscape Architecture entered the scene and after our initial discussion, Steve immediately saw the big picture with his concept plan and then proceeded to work out the myriad details in his plan set, including vast hardscape design, plant selection and ironwork. Once he decided the location of the driveway needed to change the approach to the house all of a sudden opened up for a spectacular front entry with beautiful planting, lawns, fountain, shade structures and urns. He even reworked the front portico to blend the architecture with the landscape - brilliant! We constantly receive numerous accolades for our landscape design and how it matches our home construction perfectly. The cigar smoker's patio and fireplace off the bar to the side of the house now takes center stage as I wanted. What I like is the seamless landscaping that link all these features with a sense that it just had to have been this way - kind of loose but also with an architectural edge, too. Steve Dubridge made my husband's dream of a tropical oasis come to life in Northern California. Not an easy job since this isn't the tropics. Steve is detail oriented and a perfectionist. He sees a vision to the end. I remember he even hand drew the lines into our concrete deck to give it the look we desired. He let nothing to chance. He was here for all the planting and placed every plant himself. He had great ideas about giving our backyard the finishing touches: large pots for our patio, firepit chairs for our firepit, and a covering for our arbor. He was incredibly thorough. He was always quick to respond. He was sensitive to our budget and needs. Extremely satisfied with Steve's work. Steve was recommended to us by a friend who did a substantial remodel of his back yard. We decided to engage with Steve to remodel our back yard and put in a pool. Steve's creativity in fact made our backyard look larger than it previously did after adding a pool and a covered BBQ area. We were delighted with the outcome and the attention Steve paid to the project ensuring that the pool contractor and hardscape contractor accurately implemented the design. Although I love my house, I was never happy with the way the outside looked. When the City informed me that I had to replace most of my sidewalk, I decided the time was right to have the landscape updated. Steve provided drawings with two distinct options. The one I chose, incorporated a brick walkway and a sculpted poured concrete walkway. Even before the planting was completed, my neighbors began complimenting me on the new look. When it was time for the plants, Steve sent me a list of plants so I could select the ones that I liked. He used many of the existing plants and incorporated new ones. He asked about my color preferences. I continue to get compliments about the landscaping. I notice that people walking their dogs often stop to look at the plantings. I am very happy with the way my front yard looks now. The design is creative, and unique. The material blend well with the house’s exterior to provide a cohesive setting.
