I am thrilled to write about our family’s excellent experience working with Nancy, and her company, Boxwood Design. From 2017-2018, we built a new house in Bethesda, and had a strong interest in transplanting and re-planting multiple species that were on our existing property before our construction. This ultimately was a multi-phase—and at times complicated—process, as it involved significant research, balancing the interests of the homeowners (our family), the builder and other contractors, and country regulations, with a focus on the use of native plants. She was dependable, thorough, presented multiple ideas and price points, and referred to a “Rolodex” that was of great help to us throughout the process. Above all, our property looks terrific, and we look forward to the many seasons ahead when we will be able to enjoy our evolving landscape. May you be so lucky to work with Nancy!

Successful landscaping in an area such as Carderock requires an understanding of the horticultural challenges , including a professional knowledge of landscape design, the tree and plant materials that work here as well as the pest management issues that must be faced including our continued deer nemesis. I first learned of Nancy Everett skills from other local residents that have been impressed by their first hand experience in her helping them with their both large and small scale landscaping / garden projects. Just in the last year I have personally employed her to redesign the plantings in the front section of my property as well as several consulting assignments to help with other problem areas I am facing. The results of all of this work has been very good. In addition to all of this basic work, I have found her to be a pleasure to work with. Nancy Everett has coached me through many tricky gardening problems, has been very accessible to my follow-up inquiries, has even provided me with plants from her own garden, supplied garden books from her library and let me borrow garden tools for me to do some of the work myself. Without qualification, I have been pleased with my dealings with Nancy Everett and plan to continue requesting her Landscaping and gardening services in the future.

We are huge fans of Nancy Everett's work as a garden designer and I would love to share the great experience we had . She transformed a barely mediocre and really neglected yard into a little paradise. I have one word for the result and the process of working with this caring. kind a warm woman: Wonderful! Nancy has it all and does it all. She professional, reliable and efficient - she delivers on time and on budget and always responds to questions and concerns. Her creativity is impressive. She knows how to play with hardscape and plants, creating a beautiful four-season garden with a variety of plants that complement each other in texture, color and character. Even more impressive is her unfailing and constant effort to keep costs down, by making as much use as possible of existing plants, looking for the best deals on new plants in nurseries and offering beauties from her own garden that are true bargains. We loved the fact that she really wanted to know how much time we can and want to put into maintenance and accordingly chose the plants, while educating us without ever lecturing. She was also very mindful, carefully listening to what my husband and I liked and masterfully navigated the conversation and the project when he and I differed in our preferences. She really looked out for us and went the extra mile researching and contacting Rainscape, joining us when they visited and helping wherever she could to make this project work. And when it comes to deer issues - she is a pro through and through and takes them by the antlers. As I said: She has it all and does it all.

Nancy did a great job landscaping the area in our backyard where there had been a hot tub. As we were selling the house, we wanted it to look good, but not be too expensive, and she came in under the original estimate. She also cleared out a very overgrown area in the front of our house and got it looking wonderful. All along, she stayed in touch with us, sending us photos as updates as she coordinated the work with the timing for marketing the home

Nancy and Boxwood Design did an exceptional job designing and transforming my front and back yard in D.C. including high-quality stone hardscaping and gorgeous landscaping. She managed the entire process from developing initial concepts, to refining designs, creating complete hardscape and landscape plans, selecting contractors, and then supervising all of the construction and plantings. Ultimately, the yard turned out better than I ever could have imagined and added far more value to my house than the project cost. I would definitely use Boxwood again, and recommend them highly. When I bought my row house in Petworth, the backyard looked narrow and characterless, and I really didn't think there was much that could be done with it. Nancy developed a series of designs for me to consider, including a flagstone patio bordered with cobblestones, a curved stone seating wall with a milled stone cap, and beds filled with plants that look great in all four seasons. She worked with me to include plants and features I had in mind (e.g., a dogwood tree and a teak seating bench), but also incorporated elements I never would have thought of into the design (e.g., plants that bloom at different times throughout the year, create visual interest in different parts of the yard, need direct sun or shade, attract butterflies, and plants that climb on a trellis and have scented blooms, etc.). She is incredibly knowledgeable about plants and trees, and different landscape layouts, and can recommend varieties and then fit them together into a brilliant design.

I hired Boxwood after working with several other landscaping companies. My garden is mature and needed some TLC. Boxwood provided that and now my garden provides me, my family and my neighborhood with much pleasure. Services were provided in a timely and professional manner and the owner has helped educate me in the process. Several of the plants had been mistreated over the years and now they are thriving.
