Petretti Landscape Services & Custom Pools

Petretti has a beautiful website with fabulous photos, but it's all smoke and mirrors. We started our pool upgrade in September of 2021 and it took a very stressful year to get the thing pretty much completed. Now, in the final stage, I find out that Larry Petretti did not pay the company that carried out the plaster stripping (in Mar of 2022). So that company is now placing a lien on our house in order to get their money. It seems the nightmare never ends. Here's the timeline: I contacted Petretti Landscape and Pools on 5/7/21 to remodel our outdoor pool. I received an appointment for 7/28/21, and discussed with the representative changes / upgrades for the pool. At the time I asked if the work could be completed by Thanksgiving (11/21) to which the answer was maybe. I received the designs on 8/13/21 and accepted the offer 8/14/21. On 8/20/21 I paid a deposit. On 8/31/21 I paid for engineering and permits. We didn't hear anything more from and called to follow up around mid-September asking when the work would start. The demolition started on 9/30/21, for 2 or 3 days. On 10/1/21 I paid for the demolition. Then nothing. No contact no work. No one follows up to provide a status. I emailed on numerous occasions. When I called and spoke to someone, I was told they are waiting for a permit. I followed up by email on 11/9/21 to which I received no answer. I texted the contact person a week later and received no answer. In my email on 12/1/21, I asked for an estimated work date, in writing. I received an answer to call back. Voicemails never provide any information, just to call back. One rep emailed that he could not reach my phone. I emailed back and verified the number, but received no call or answer to my email. It appears to me they do not want to put anything in writing which makes me feel insecure about how serious they are about their agreements. On 1/6/22, I contacted the BBB indicating that I would like to know when and if they plan to complete the work. On 1/19/22 a Petretti rep emailed that "we will be having a plaster company out at your place to look at the pool to set a date to strip the plaster out." Finally, three months later, they did send someone to strip the plaster. After that I followed up every week with an email and texts in order to get work done. Then when the plaster was going to go in, they wanted the payment up front, even though our contract stated that each segment of the job would be paid as it was completed. The rep, Mike, threatened to stop work. Save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere. I'm headed for legal advice and back to the BBB.

Well, where to begin....we hired Petretti to do an entire landscape and pool install in our backyard around July 2019. We didn't have a lot of time to research but thought initially that the owner had integrity, so we moved forward. Once they broke ground, we had issues with timelines, communication, workers being shifted to other projects, leaving work area a mess and overall quality. The COVID issue in 2020 just added even more layers of complexity to getting our backyard completed. It was a constant struggle having to follow up (emails/texts) and then trying to get final punch list items at the end resolved. We now see other reviews and can relate to be taken advantage of. In November 2020, we were inspected by EID and discovered that Petretti failed to get our pool auto fill signed off before concrete was poured. Because of this, it was dismantled. It's now been 1.5 years that we've been waiting for the issue to be corrected. The owner has continued to make random excuses delaying the repair every time we tried to get an update. He has basically abandoned us now. Recommend you do your homework before making a big investment on them.

Covid and staffing issues have turned a project that is normally a few months into year long plus projects. While this is understandable, the lack of communication is not acceptable. It’s a consistent effort to figure out when someone will be out to work on the project and there are weeks between work being done.

We contacted with Petretti in December of 2019 to replace the coping and decking around our pool. The yard is beautiful with two exceptions. The grouting between the coping was not completed correctly and as a result most of it washed away in the first rains. In addition, the grout between the deck and the coping was not installed correctly and as a result large chunks of it came lose. We let Peteretti in March of 2020 about the defects. We were patient for the first six months as Covid was making work difficult. We had two of their foremen and one of their workers out and showed them the issue. They agreed that both were a problem. They finally came to fix the grout between the coping and the deck in December of 2020, nine months after we first reported the issue. Their first solution was to remove the old grout and not use any grouting at all. We reminded them that we paid for the grout and would like it installed correctly. They did reinstall the grout between the coping and the pool and so far, it seems to be staying put. The grout between the coping has still not been corrected. We have made repeated calls and sent emails since that time to find out when they will complete the work without any response. I am filing a complaint against their contractor’s license and expect to be forced to have another contractor correct the defect.

They Require a $10k minimum job and never showed up to my appointment. After an hour of waiting I emailed their office and then a dude named Bruce showed up. Thanks but no thanks if my time is not valuable to me then you are not needed....next!

We hired Petretti Landscape because they were a one stop shop, they gave us a detailed list for the project and they had a project manager to oversee the project. Our project was a big project we had everything removed from the front and back yard and restarted from scratch. Jess, Scott, Dan and Larry were great to work with and if we had questions they answered them. We ended up going a little over our initial budget because the demolition for our old patio took longer than they anticipated, we made a couple of minor changes with the concrete and noticed some electrical didn't make in the initial bid. They finished the project about a week or so ahead of schedule. The only issue we had is our lighting in the back doesn't want to come on at when it becomes dark (will turn off in the morning). We are currently working with Petretti to correct the issue. Overall the experience has been great and believe me I was very anxious about the process and I am very happy with how the project turned out and have received many compliments on the yard.

I just wanted to let everyone know how exceptional the work that was done on my house was. Petretti Landscape let me know all of phases they were in, were in constant contact with me, and always were on time. My backyard looks amazing and I couldn't be happier. My kids enjoy their backyard now - and they did such great work that my neighbor even contacted them and got work done with them. Anytime I need anything done - they are the first I am going to call.

Fantastic job, on time and within budget. Were not the low bid but I felt more comfortable and felt Larry Petretti cared and connected with my ideas and suggested a fantastic pondless waterfall. Mike the foreman was constantly keeping me informed and made the construction painless.. Fantastic customer service.. Highly recommend.

Can’t say enough about Larry and the crew at Petretti Landscaping Services. Great communication from start to finish of our project and we love the results. Their work on our pergola is top notch.

I have hired Petretti Landscape Services for three projects over the last three years. I'm planning on hiring them again next year. Larry, his foreman, and crew are always professional and friendly. Larry takes into consideration my budget & needs and gives much appreciated recommendations and insight. The end products are perfection!

I met with Chris to receive a bid for landscaping my back yard. I was told that I would be contacted in about a week. When 12 days passed and I called I was told that they were passing on my project because the received a big contract and that they had been meaning to call me. Any company that runs their business in that fashion where they can spend 2 minutes to keep a commitment to a customer is one that I am happy not to do business with. My small $30K + project may not have been worth your time but it was certainly worth a phone call.
