Light bulbs Unlimited opened in Boca in the summer of 1991 on Federal Highway, just north of 20th street, and shared the building with "SHARON'S" Diner, a local favorite. Puzzled diners would pop into the light bulb store after lunch and chuckle at the notion that anybody could survive on a strict diet of light bulbs only. In a sense, they were correct; soon after SHARON'S closed their doors for good, LIGHT BULBS UNLIMITED expanded their menu to include anything that their customers needed. For a short period in the early nineties you could find radio caps, antique jukeboxes and a selection of imported Italian shoes on the floor. As business improved, many lines of lighting fixtures were added and this necessitated the need to move to larger premises. In 1996 the store was relocated less than two miles north, in a much larger space, nestled between "BAGELS WITH" and "JOSEPHINE'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT". Thanks to the loyal support of our customers and friends the business continued to grow until one fateful day on November 18th, 2001. On that day, the Miami Dolphins lost 24-0 to the New York Jets. Gloom turned to real doom when minutes later the entire shopping center in which our store was located burned down to the ground. (Sun Sentinel article) Shock and dismay was soon overcome by the outpouring of support and help from our customers and vendors alike. Less than three months later, LIGHT BULBS UNLIMITED reopened in our current location at 2273 North Federal Highway, right next door to our original store. And that is the beginning of our new story. Today, LIGHT BULBS UNLIMITED in Boca Raton is proud to be part of the LBU Lighting Group of companies, one of nine stores in South and Central Florida. True to our humble beginnings, you can still find the most obscure light bulb alongside the very newest in LED and energy efficient bulbs.
