My home is my safe place, it's my exhale. The way my family feels about our home is of the utmost importance to me. It’s an honor for me to create a place that we all genuinely want to spend our time in. At our house, the front porch and entryway are our first warm welcome. There’s this feeling that starts to unfold as soon as I pull into the driveway and see the rockers where I often watch my daughter play in the yard. I can feel myself begin to unwind as I enter our home. The soft light, the smell of my favorite candle, a space free of clutter feels to me like the best kind of welcome. The world and its chaos, the day and its demands, all falls silent. I am home…. One of the reasons why I am so passionate about my work is because I deeply want this feeling of “home” for everyone. Philosophically speaking, I do believe that what’s on the inside matters most. It’s a value I hold for myself, and that I teach my children. But I’ve learned that tending to the outside has a pretty profound effect on how we feel on the inside. For me, it starts with the small thoughtful details that are on my front porch steps, like planters, sconces, or a welcome mat to the distinct details of my master bedroom that create a restful and non-chaotic space. For me, clearing away clutter and nonessentials promotes a feeling of peace and the rest need to feel renewed, energized to get back up, and tackle another day, that is how I know I’m home. I truly believe the details communicate something to our guest but more importantly, they’re communicating something to my own family. It’s a visual acknowledgment that we care about the space we come home to every day- inside and out. Caring for my home, a place that brings comfort and peace for my loved ones is one of the most important aspects of my core values, it shows a willingness to show up and be there when needed. I feel incredibly grateful to have the gift of creating beautiful spaces where everyone who enters our door feels at home.
