"Place impacts all the senses- influencing who we are and who we will become."1.
Architects and designers are aware of the importance of "place". Buildings carefully crafted, courtyards filled with flowing streams or waterfalls, and colors and fabrics cast throughout a space affect us deeply. The coolness and texture of tile on bare feet transports us. A nook backlit by a sunset draws us in to relax and enjoy the moment.
My job, as photographer, is to make photographs that convey the feeling of being in your special, particular, three dimensional space. I enjoy working with designers, artists, and homeowners in helping them show what they have created. It happens with point of view and great lighting. We all help the viewer feel ocean spray and smell cookies baking. That’s the real assignment, to show what it is like to be there!
I have a background in shooting for the S.F. American Conservatory Theatre, SF Ballet and Opera and so am comfortable with, and still use, a full compliment of photographic lighting equipment. Although of course we use Photoshop and Lightroom for post production of images, I am not a Photoshop based photographer. I paint with light in real time, when the capture is made.
