July 2022 we decided to have our stairs replaced with an oak and glass staircase The transformation is absolutely outstanding. Rachael gave us a variety of options for the oak and glass we wanted. Fitters polite/helpful/nothing to much trouble will treat your house as if it was there own Every evening before they leave thoroughly clean down all rubbish removed daily which in this day and age is well above the norm . This is a firm of perfectionists the end product has far exceeded our expectations after going through a full renovation these were the only firm we never moaned about or had to get back to put things right . People visiting our house just say wow! Not the cheapest but certainly the best we have now asked them to build fitted furniture for other rooms in the house . Thomas Fearns recently installed a replacement oak staircase in my house. The work was to the highest standard of craftsmanship you could hope for, they really strive to do a perfect job. They made, received and responded to suggestions for variations and augmentations to the details of the original concept as the work progressed to get the best outcome possible, given the constraints of the existing building structures.

We are delighted with our new staircase - it has made such a difference to our home even though we kept our original carpets. It looks like a lovely art installation in the centre of the house. We were keen to use a local business and after reading the reviews and Rachael's informative visit we booked the work. The work took a little longer than expected, but the finish is beautiful and Thomas, Rob and Shy have sorted some areas around the skirtings that have looked messy for years. They were a great team of craftsmen and were respectful of our home so were comfortable to have working in the house with us. I originally worried that glass might not be in keeping with our Edwardian era house, but it looks amazing and has enhanced the first and second floors. The company deserves its five stars.

We have just had our staircase renovated by this company and we are extremely delighted with the end result, it looks stunning! Our initial appointment was with Rachael who explained everything really well and had samples to hand to help with decision making with regard to finishes etc. She was helpful in the design process too, without being pushy or overbearing! The price quoted, although expensive, was very competitive and did not alter upon completion even though extra tweaks/materials were needed. Prior to installation, Thomas visited and explained things clearly, making suggestions to help clarify exactly what we wanted. The installation itself did take a little longer than expected but Thomas and his colleague kept us informed about this. The work was carried out to a very high standard and their attention to detail was exceptional and the overall finish is perfect. They cleaned and cleared up as they went a long and took all the old staircase bits and pieces away with them. There was minimal damage to the surrounding walls but even this was filled before they left. Could not recommend this company enough for their outstanding service from start to finish.

We have just had our Staircase Refurbishment, completed by Thomas Ferns. Rachael visited us, went through our Options and gave us a quotation, which was very competitive. There was no pressure selling and Rachael answered all our questions while with us. We had asked for two other quotes, both from National Installers. One did not get back to us for an appointment till two weeks after we requested one and the other companies quote was fifty percent more than the one we got from Thomas Ferns, for exactly the same work. We did experience a delay in getting the work done, but was well worth the wait. Both the installers were very polite and their workmanship was excellent. We are completely satisfied with our refurbished stairs and would recommend Thomas Ferns to any of our friends.

I had considered renovating our staircase for sometime but was always put off as the majority of workmen do not do or say what they promise. Having finally convinced my husband that it would make a huge difference to a very small hallway and landing I set about obtaining various quotes which was jaw dropping and very daunting I had received four different quotes ranging in value but was not happy with any of them, none of them were offering what a wanted at a fair price. So it was back to the drawing board and to search the internet to obtain further quotes. I came across Thomas Ferns Staircase website and decided to give them a call. Rachael the Sales Director was very helpful and it was obvious from the outset that she knew her job so we arranged a site visit. Rachael arrived on time with all the samples and answered all the questions we asked in a straight forward direct manor. Although the price was expensive for a small staircase renovation it was considerably less that any other quote so we decided to go ahead. I am so pleased that we did. The next step was a visit from Thomas himself who carried out a comprehensive survey and again answered any questions or queries that had occurred since Rachael’s visit and an installation date was arranged. Thomas and Joe arrived promptly at 8.15a.m. as arranged. They immediately set about transforming our staircase, working continuously throughout the day in a tidy and professional manor and at each stage ensuring that we were happy with the results. They worked a thirteen hour day only briefly stopping for a short lunch and tea break. After considering a replacement stairs for a few years I was always put off by the upheaval and general poor quality of some so called tradesmen in the building industry. You know the type, half finished jobs, not returning calls, teenagers masquerading as time served skilled men. So I bit the bullet and invited 4 Companies to quote for the replacement stairs. No 1 Wanted 80% Deposit prior to work starting No 2 Quoted in excess of £5000.00 of what I paid (bet you can guess who but they did offer big discounts if I signed up that second) No 3 Was Late and could only talk about No2 far too much No 4 Was Rachael of Thomas Ferns Ltd who unlike 1 & 3 did not want 80% up front but we agreed a reasonable deposit and final payment, also no extra discount if you sign today was offered as used by No2. Which by the way if a big discount is offered it 99% of time means an inflated quote in the first place. We had none of this, simple quote which was competitive without a compromise on the quality. So the order was placed hoping i chose the right company. I was not disappointed. The work was carried out by the company exactly as promised, the few calls I made were returned promptly, the tradesmen were first class and knew exactly what they were doing and a minimum (None) mess was made. We left them to work alone so they are completely trustworthy, which is a concern when letting people in your home. So from Quotation, Value, Professionalism and service I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

In September 2018 we had our old, boarded staircase replaced with a new oak and glass staircase and also had a large under stairs walk-in cupboard removed. My staircase renovation was started 3 months ago and is atill incomplete. Last intended visit by this company was 5-6 weeks ago, but nobody showed-up and I have heard nothing from Thomas Fern since. Have made several attempts to contact this company, but still no response. I was expecting a bespoke ‘oak’ staircase, but note 90% of the materials used are no more than oak laminated MDF. For the price I’m expected to pay, this is outrageous.

We got an accurate quote with no surprises. Our staircase is exactly what we wanted as Thomas and the team were happy to accommodate our needs in terms of material and design. The staircase installation was delayed by few days due one of the parts got damaged in transit, but it wasn't an issue as we valued the care the company to do not compromise in level of quality. Whoever you choose, it seems that the product range is exactly the same, as the spindles, newel posts and handrails are all sourced from the same UK manufacturer. In fact, Thomas came up with a design idea and matching dado rail which the bigger company didn't suggest. Competitively priced, workmanship by Thomas and Joe is really good, with attention to detail and the fitting went exactly to plan.
