It has been an extremely difficult experience from start to finish. However, the owners are good guys and I felt like they tried to make things right, which is why they're getting three stars. At the end of the day I can't let this negate the fact that the process was still an unpleasant one. Preferred lender- We used the preferred lender but I caution anyone using the preferred lender... Do you really know who the "preferred" lender is working for? I don't know what lender they're still using but our house came back appraised for 15K less than what we offered.. The preferred lender never told us this but instead went directly to Shimberg (prior to us trying to use this as negotiation) and contested the appraisal without our knowledge. To me I 100% felt like the 15+ relationship Shimberg had with their "preferred" lender outweighed my wife and I as clients. Melisa- Their home designer - was not very helpful through the whole process. At no point were we ever given a cell phone number to where we could reach her.. mind you, this is when she wasn't in the office and working from home. Even when I tried to call the office she was hard to get in touch with. I had to email almost all design questions for our house. Very frustrating when you're buying a home well north of 400K. I was trying to make an informed decision on upgraded flooring. My wife and I had the extra money and were willing to pay a premium to have Shimberg go ahead and install flooring.. Something to the tune of 18K if I remember correctly. The nail on the coffin was when she emailed me back and said " I've emailed you over a couple options and at this point it just seems like we're just spinning gears". Why would we want to give more money to a company when that is how we're treated? I emailed her back and said "as consumers, and first time home buyers, we want to make the most informed decision we can make. If we want to spin wheels when it comes to our money, its well within our right" Hopefully you're a handy person and can fix all the lazy and bad craftsmanship of your new Shimberg home. I say this because their new construction manager GW will come in your home and make ever excuse under the sun as to why Shimberg will not fix it. Cracks in the ceiling in a home that's not even a year old.. Yes, they fixed some stuff in my home but stuff that should've been done correctly the first time was "conveniently not covered in the home warranty". This would NEVER be an issue if they held their contractors to a higher standard. I've had too many issues but I will caution you on a few things. Make sure the tile grout is done correctly, our grout was so high between the tiles we couldn't even seal it. I had a professional grout guy (who seals grout for a living) tell me this is one of the worst jobs he'd ever seen. He wouldn't even seal the first floor because he said he'd feel bad taking my money. The tile upstairs was done by a completely different company and was actually

Schimberg built my current home. It is a 4,000 sq ft 5 bedroom 3.5 bath, 3 car garage. The firm did an excellent job.
