I own a 1950's rancher that needed a face lift. When I moved in 4-5 years ago it still had the original kitchen (metal cabinets), bathrooms (blue and pink), wall paper in every room... it was ugly. I wanted to redo everything but had two major concerns; 1.Was this business legitimate (My brother had a renovation done and the contractor ran off with $50K) 2.Could I afford it I checked out a few contractors and had them give me ideas and estimates. What set Distinctive elements apart was, 1. The design, Bo laid out all her ideas and put them into computer model. She went over everything from removing walls and ceilings to the color paint I should use. 2. I met her contractor BEFORE anything was done. Very nice guy, easy to talk to, and there wasn’t anything shady about him. Next was checking out her business/reputation. I heard so many renovation nightmare stories, especially with my brother, that I checked everything. I also work in the security industry so I’m a little more paranoid than usual. Long story short everything checked out, I went to her office, checked out references, etc.. all good. Then the cost, another big concern. Bo laid out everything that needed to be done and her contractor listed materials and labor in each invoice. I didn’t have to pay a huge chunk of money up front which also made me feel more at ease. The work went in phases and so did the invoices, there was lots of details in each one. My questions were answered immediately and calls were returned the same day. In the end everything turned out great! New kitchen, master bath/bedroom, vaulted celling, TV hung over the fireplace, all new lighting, etc. I love my “new” house and I came in under budget by $4k (this also makes me very very happy).
