Never Ever Ever use this company. Frank was really nice and attentive at first, then he got the down payment. After that, he was extremely difficult to reach. He refused to set up a meeting to see the problems caused by his contractors until we were more than 40 days past the final extended deadline. Everything that was verbally agreed upon was later retracted by him as "not in the contract". Painting that should have taken 5 days to a week is ongoing even after they've been working on it for nearly 2 months. The mess is horrible. Frank blames everyone but himself. Pieces were delivered damaged, some were immediately returned and others were installed. There are plenty of other contractors. Please, use one of them and not these people!!! Frank has surpassed any level of incompetence and rudeness I have ever seen before.

We have paid >$6000 for the right to share our honest experience with this company – please be very careful before getting into any business arrangement with them. I understand people are happy with their work, but their business / interpersonal practices are not worth it. We bought a deal at a great price for a bathroom renovation design, and the owner, Frank, came to look at the space, hear our goals, and take measurements. We met with him a couple of weeks later and were happy with the design he prepared. We went ahead in creating a contract for the work to be done – his staff was very communicative and we made some adjustments to the contract. We signed the contract and paid a deposit of $6,766. We met with one staff member to start selecting materials for the bathroom and 5 days later had a major life event. As a result we needed to change our plans and cancel the project. We contacted Frank immediately to prevent any materials from being ordered and he was pleasant but reminded us that the contract gives him the right to retain the entire deposit. Suddenly it was impossible to get Frank, ie anyone with decision-making power, on the phone. When my husband finally got Frank on the phone (maybe he doesn’t negotiate with women) his best offer was to return ½ the deposit ONLY if we signed an agreement not to share our honest experience with future potential customers. If you thought you were providing your customers a good experience why would you try to silence them? After a series of emails trying to explain our circumstances, and after receiving a number of emails containing very personal insults directly from Frank (while simultaneously touting his personal integrity) we decided to forgo the entire deposit for the right to share with you our honest experience with this company. I hope this expense will help others think twice before hiring this company.

We bought a foreclosure, to say it was an eyesore is being kind. We utilized Frank at Ruxton Design & Build. The project started out as a Kitchen/Main level remodel and turned into 2 levels of our house. We started out by choosing to remove a load bearing wall, which several other contractors had absolutely no desire to be bothered with and tried to talk me out of. Frank jumped at the opportunity to create plans to accommodate our requests. We were able to remove our wall, reinforce it and open our main level into a New York loft feel with 20 ft. Cathedral Ceilings. We can’t put into words how beautiful our upstairs Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchen looks now! We had many questions and were so undecided in our Kitchen Cabinet, Counter and Floor Selections. Christen and Frank were always there to make suggestions and allow us to continuously change our selections and revisit their beautiful design studio. After the halfway point in the main level, we decided to call Frank again for an estimate to replace our 2.5 baths and quote a remodel on our Family Room. The price and design was awesome and we decided since they were already there, we would have them continue in the rest of the house. The finished product consisted of custom built in window boxes with recessed lights on a dimmer. A custom built in entertainment center built to house the dimensions of our 70” TV. Custom built in boxes for our surround sound system speakers, a stone fireplace hearth hand built by one of the guys. It is the difference between night and day and we now love our new home. With the additional work we added and constant changes we made, they finished on time and always made sure our house was clean at the end of each day. The respect they had for our home was so well appreciated. We will be doing our basement this spring and we will be calling Ruxton Design & Build. Can’t wait to get started. They are great!

We purchased a house built in 1963 that had very few improvements made to it in the following 50 years. The master bath felt a bit like walking into a cell block and the original kitchen was small, closed off from the rest of the house and disjointed (2 long windows and 3 doorways disrupted the counter and cabinet space.) We wanted to renovate the house before we moved in. We updated the bathroom, flipped the kitchen and dining room and removed the load bearing wall between them to make it one large room. We then also opened up the wall between the new kitchen and the living room area to connect the spaces. Frank really worked with us to get a design we liked and the result is transformative. The master bath is beautifully updated and even though the space is the same, it feels so much more spacious. The kitchen is stunning, but even more important to us, the living space is terrific. Frank took a house that was extremely dated and made it into a beautiful modern home. The end result is so natural and flows so well that you would never even guess the house wasn't designed this way. We spoke to and met with a few other companies before deciding on Ruxton Design and Build and Frank's design was far and away superior to any of the other bids we got. His vision for a difficult space is nothing short of amazing. Some other things to note: When Frank says he wears many hats, he really does. I don't know how he does it all because he never stinted on time with us during the design phase, he frequently stopped by the house to check on progress and he was always immediately available if a problem arose. He takes an immense amount of pride in his work. You don't have to worry about making a mistake and doing something terrible to your house, because he just won't allow it. And he won't mince words when he tells you, either. At one point I wanted to take the microwave out of a built in cabinet and put it under one of the cabinets and he flat out refused, saying it would look terrible. And he was totally right. During the actual construction phase, there were a few things that went wrong - there was some accidental water damage during demo, and later in the project, refinished hardwood floors were walked on before they were dry. I mention these things not to detract from the wonderful job that was done, but to highlight what a quality company Ruxton Design and Build is. It's when things go wrong that you can really tell what kind of contractor you have. After talking with many people who have redone kitchens, these sorts of problems or worse happen fairly frequently. And they often turn into expensive horror stories. But Frank never tried to shift the cost of these mistakes onto us or get into a blame game. He immediately came over to examine the problem and told us he would take care of it. And he did. Every issue that arose was resolved to our satisfaction. I feel like this is a rarity in today's world. Ruxton Design and Build is Frank's company and he takes so much pride in his work that you can rest assured he will not leave you with anything less than a beautiful finished product. At the beginning of the project he told me to trust him, and while I am not by nature a super trusting person, he really does deserve that trust. He completely transformed our house and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.

Ruxton Design and Build did a complete renovation of our master bathroom. From beginning to end we were kept informed and consulted. The end result was amazing. So much so, that we expanded our project to include a complete renovation of the closets in our master bedroom, with equally great results. Everyone involved was professional, and clean up at the end of each work day was thorough.
