We hired Jeff to reside our house, put in an addition with bathroom update and kitchen remodel. He started in 2017 and it was contracted to take 3-6 months and finally got him out of our lives in 2019. It was a big job so the start money was a lot which is why we hung on for a long time trying desperately to break even. Like others said, there was crazy excuse after another, he would show up 3 hours at a time and only a few days a week. He’d literally say he was on his way and we’d didn’t see him that day or the next. It was the most stressful experience of my life which is why it took me 3 years to finally write a review. I hope I never see Jeff ever again and my heart goes out to anyone who has hired him.

This has been an absolute nightmare for my husband and myself. Hired him to remodel our kitchen in October. At first he would show up and work 3 hours then leave. After a couple of weeks he wouldn't show up at all. It has been over 2 weeks since we saw him. He doesn't return calls. We sent him a letter terminating his services. Our old kitchen was ripped out, so we are left without one.

Hired Jeff to do a enclosed porch and kitchen remodel. The job took a turn for the worse after 1 week. He started then disappeared. Never communicated. Finally showed up and said he went on vacation. Worked a week then disappeared again. Never communicated. When he did it was excuse after excuse. After a couple of months of this I had to fire him and move on. He ordered doors and windows for the job which I paid for - never got them. Total disaster. Never had such a bad experience with someone.

My husband and I hired Jeff Ramsey, Owner and Master Carpenter of Ramsey Designs, for a kitchen remodel which began about three years ago and has never quite wrapped up. Given the idiosyncrasies of our older (1970s) townhome and small, galley-like kitchen, we thought it wise to take Jeff up on his offer to build “custom” cabinets for us himself rather than buy them commercially. Not only would they fit better, he explained, they would be ready for install much sooner than would cabinets that had to be ordered (which turned out to be a joke). When asked about a warranty for these “RAMSEY” cabinets, Jeff committed to us that HE would provide that to us personally. The photos of our cabinets capture the value of Jeff’s word as a contractor and businessman. I won’t reflect now on the months that this job dragged on past the deadline to which he had committed. But what remains a hard pill to swallow is the fact that these Ramsey build, “custom made cabinets” have never been right: misaligned and crooked, with paint that began to crack and peal within weeks after he, himself, painted and rehung them a second time (his female assistant, whom he subsequently fired for shoddy work, had painted them the first time).
We wonder to this day why, despite his many promises to come back and complete the work he committed to and for which he was paid, Jeff simply has not followed through. Despite an email promise as recently as May of this year to repaint and rehang the cabinets “in June when my current project is completed,” we have not heard back from him, despite numerous calls and emails following up patiently, and then finally, calling him for the last time offering him the opportunity to “make things right by us.”
Words alone cannot describe our frustration with ourselves for hiring him, and our disappointment in the untrustworthy, unconscientious contractor that he turned out to be.

I am a homeowner that hired this company for a basement renovation. The estimated timeframe was 2 months. It is now 7 MONTHS later with no significant changes to scope and still no end date in sight. This has turned into the typical contractor horror story that Consumer Reports warns you about. We were told during the "sales" process that the company focuses on one project at a time and typically will be onsite 9 am -5 pm. Soon after the project started, it shifted to more of a part-time project with many days and weeks of no-shows. Then it became almost an afterthought, hobby project where minimal work would happen as the weeks went by.
There has been ZERO communication, explanation, or apologies from the company owner as to why this is so delayed. There were no delays from suppliers or from the homeowners, so we have no idea why this estimated 2 month project that started at Easter is now extending past Halloween. When we ask for commitments on dates, we are brushed aside. When we give punchlists of remaining items and ask for status, we are not provided details. I have never seen a builder work without a detailed project plan and provide dates and communications to the homeowners. There have been issues with the work itself with things that you would think are no-brainers, such as painting the edging in a straight line, fixing giant mis-shaped patches in the dry wall, installing outlet covers, properly painting the trim, etc. Buyer beware.

I am so pleased that I hired Jeff to remodel the kitchen and master bath in my "new: 70's home. His mastery of universal design was important to me since I have MS and I was concerned about accessibility as well as beauty. He had many great ideas and the results exceeded my expectations. He is honest, skilled and a great guy as well.

Working with Jeff was an absolute pleasure! My husband and I would hire him again in a heartbeat and highly recommend him and his crew. His designs for our new kitchen were inspiring. His appointments, e-mail correspondence, design ideas, and updates regarding construction progress were always timely. He and his crew were super neat, and cleaned all construction debris, dirt, and materials every day. He is an absolute craftsman and perfectionist and takes great pride in his work. We love our new Kaolin kitchen!

I needed my shower converted to a walk in shower due to my MS. I also needed the vanity raised so I could pull up to the sink to wash, brush etc. Ramsey Bldrs. did a wonderful job on the conversation. Now I can pull right up to the shower in my scooter and easily transfer into a chair that is in the shower. They put in a shelf so I can easily get to my shampoo, soap, etc. They also put in a hand held shower head so I can easily shower. They did a fantastic job. Plus, they were clean, neat, ON TIME and respectful of my home. I trusted them so much that at one point during the job I had to go out of town and I gave them the key to my house. When I got home not only was the bathroom complete but it was cleaner than when they first started! What a great welcome home.

Jeff and Ramsey Builders treated my home like it was their home. They were thoughtful about the project planning process, communicated all along the way, and even did all those little things that you never think of but end up making a world of difference. When I need someone I can trust to work on my home, I always call Ramsey Builders.

It was a pleasure to work with Jeff Ramsey. Jeff is highly skilled and pays attention to detail. We had a complete master bath renovation with walk in shower and are so pleased with the results. One of the most comforting aspects of working with Ramsey builders is they finished the job to our satisfaction. Anytime we had a concern, Jeff was always able to problem solve, come up with good choices and found a solution to our satisfaction.
We heartily recommend Ramsey builders.

Ramsey Builders did a major addition to our home taking about 18 months to complete the job. We paid him in-full and as he requested provided him with a list with a number of items needing correction (punch list). We have patiently waited for him to return to address the list which he has confirmed he plans to do. He has given us multiple times/days that he plans to come back and address the outstanding issues (leak in roof, cracked caulking, etc.). It has now been 5 months since he has responded in any manner to our calls or emails. This is not an acceptable way to treat customers!

Jeff Ramsey is an owner/operator general remodeling business. We hired Jeff to help us with a remodel of our third floor. We had had some work done already and done some work ourselves in a gutted rowhome, but we needed to complete and do-over some of the work (think very rough!). Jeff was really responsive to our calls whenever we had a question - even late at night - and he was highly consultative during the process. For us, it was important to minimize cost and also work in as green a way as possible and that we had someone who wasn't always hard to reach or track down. Even though there were delays in receiving special order materials and other issues like that that arose, we never had the experience that Jeff "dropped the ball" on remembering to follow up or schedule times when the work would be completed. Having a contractor that we didn't have to constantly chase down was a big deal for us. Jeff was also very flexible - willing to do things like re-purpose an old marble slab that we were attached to but had no purpose for (it was in the kitchen when we bought the house) into the design, creating a display area in the stairwell for a piece of sculpture. When we asked him to install a water-saving self-metering faucet in the bathroom (a kids' bathroom) he was great when most contractors would look at us like we had two heads (it worked out great, by the way, and saves us from a lot of mischief caused by the littler ones). In the end, for about $11,000, Jeff completed a complex remodel of an empty "loftlike" space that needed entirely new electrical and a lot of plumbing and special carpentry treatments (our house was a gut when we bought it). He followed faithfully our vision to turn the space into three bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, and a family room, working around issues like the slap dash stairwell walls we'd put up to save the kids from plunging down a story. He never complained about our shoddy work, and turned an ugly duckling (complete with graffiti) into a real swan. He was able to make some great cost and time saving suggestions, too. There were some challenging aspects, like a story-high window in the stairwell that many contractors would have shied away from replacing (and have), and a sloping ceiling that follows the roofline instead of being installed at a right angle. We cut into a dormer to recapture space, and Jeff was able to figure out how to pull all the elements together in a creative way, elegantly fixing mistakes the previous owners had made (like cutting vents too close to the floor to allow for baseboards - Jeff camouflaged with molding instead of suggesting we rip it all out - and it actually looks like it was supposed to be that way). Jeff is also not afraid of making special orders - in the past we've found that contractors balked at honoring the scale of the spaces in our home which are off-kilter being a narrow Victorian row. Most contractors prefer to just work with stock components, but Jeff was willing to work with us on getting the right components for the space. This is probably the quality I like most about this company - Jeff has a willingness to be flexible and think outside the box, and an interest in sustainable and low-waste construction. Jeff actually has a BA degree in Greek and Latin - I think his liberal arts education serves him well in his chosen profession and affords him creativity and open-mindedness that other contractors just don't have. I should also mention that Jeff has a team of workers, including one woman named Brianna who is exceptional (I did not get to see his other helpers work as much, so I cannot comment). Brianna is serious and fast, very polite and very friendly with our kids (as is Jeff). I think Jeff has only been operating his own business for a couple years, but he's worked in the building trades for much longer and it shows. He has experience with almost every aspect of home repair and improvement and is honest if he doesn't know.
