Interior Design Studio established by Designer and Curator Aly Grimes

Welcome to San Stae, an interior design studio spanning the Midlands, the Cotswolds the South West of England. Established by Designer and Curator Aly Grimes in 2020, San Stae is named after the Italian neighbourhood she lived in during her creative training in Venice. After six years at award-winning restoration and build company, Javelin Block, and ten years of producing international contemporary art projects, Aly has worked on several heritage, new build and large residential schemes across the UK. Since inception, the studio has collaborated with several renowned architects and developers, from BPN Architects to Urban Splash, combining international experience with a local sensitivity. The studio also runs its own art class delivering architectural, still life, and life drawing workshops to design professionals and the public.

Aly was fantastic from start to finish. She managed to create a singular vision from our 2 different tastes that we both loved equally. Aly sourced us multiple options for furniture to give us some flexibility. She put us in touch with the team who completed the building work and also plants and liased with them in regards to the media we were using. Communication was great from start to finish we always knew what was need from our end and what the next steps were. Can’t wait to see the project come to life in the summer and will definitely be using san stae again for future projects!

I have worked with Aly on several projects in my professional life as a Quantity Surveyor/Project Manager and at home and each time it has been a pleasure. On each occasion Aly effortlessly understood Client ideas, however vague and has been able to help translate them into comfortable, inviting and stylish spaces. She is very knowledgeable about the market so is able to help achieve and surpass current trends whilst staying within budget. Tapping in to Aly's expertise has saved time searching for the perfect product as well has helping me find the most cost effective methods. Of notable Projects we have collaborated on, Paper Yard in the Gun Quarter of Birmingham, where Aly lead the look for a 77 new build apartment, creating a style heavy of various paper styles much to the like of Client.

I worked with Aly on an interior project for my new (Grade 2* listed) home. She really helped support bringing my vision to life and making suggestions on what would and would not necessarily work in the space. Aly was able to tailor the project based on my needs and budget, which I appreciated as it felt more customized. This included digital design layouts of the space, sourcing materials, and consistent check-ins weekly to ensure we were on the right track. There were a few stress points where I changed direction due to outside circumstances and Aly was able to pivot and help provide options for me to move in a new direction with ease. I am so pleased with the outcome of project, and the beauty of my new home!
