John Todd Bishop Interior Design

Todd is a lovely person to work with and he has a wonderful sense of design. While he mainly works in a traditional style, his talent for interiors permits him to work just as well in a transitional and modern style. Todd is highly organized and you can always trust he is doing the right thing by you. I can recommend Todd without hesitation.

I contacted Todd after an extensive search for someone who could assist with our renovation of an 1,100 sq foot condo in Staten Island. We're native New Yorkers looking for someone who gets what it's like to be local and living on a budget. I am all about function, durability, and comfort before aesthetic, and a relative minimalist. Seeing he had 20+ years in the industry, and a native himself who appeared to have a skill for refurbishing old pieces into gems, I contacted him for a consultation. I was immediately relieved by his clear, polite, and formal communication style; an art lost to modern technology. Before we met in person, he asked for photos of the space, and upon receipt of them, agreed to meet to consult on our project. After hearing our ideas for what we hoped to make the space, Todd was honest with us about and said it didn't deserve the money we were considering putting into it; that it would be better to replace only what needed replacing, as we weren't looking to be in the space for more than 5 years. He said our money would be better spent investing in quality furniture, lamps, etc that we would take to our "forever" home (had we decided to in fact renovate, he would have provided hand-drawn designs for is.) After a long talk, my husband and I realized he was right. That type of honesty is RARE in a world where everyone is looking to take your money and make a quick buck. In the end, we elected not to renovate, but to make simple changes and invest in quality furniture pieces that will last, suit our lifestyle, and can move with us. I would highly recommend Todd to anyone who appreciates clear, honest, truthful communication and thoughtful dialogue on needs verus wants. I look forward to calling on Todd in the future.

Todd worked for me a number of times beginning in 2000 until the present. He did a fabulous job decorating a room with menus I had collected around the world. He selected fabrics and planned designs of rooms. He has an incredible eye and did a great job placing objects in rooms. I recommend him highly to others.

hired Todd the summer of 2014 to help me decorate my 4 bedroom house in Scarsdale, NY. Prior to this project I had never worked with an interior designer, let alone decorate a house. I have very little patience for shopping, so I just lived without for many years, until we moved into our current house. Todd is the partner of my high school friend, so I already knew him well and I felt more comfortable taking it on with him than a stranger. Six months later I had a beautiful home. Todd involved me in the process, took the time to help me clarify my taste. I learned to appreciate interior design. Todd is a good listener and conscientious to a fault. I guarantee you he will think about your project more than you will. He is very passionate about his work and puts his heart and soul into the project.
