Don Richards III for Middlebury Furniture

I am currently working with Don and am enjoying every minute of it! He embraces my transitional style and puts it all together. We are working on an open concept floor plan, and therefore need to tie in the dining room/living space and kitchen. Will be sure to post photos when we are done. Loving all the ideas Don puts forth. I cannot wait to see it all come together. So delighted to have Don help me put my home together - just the way I want!

Most of my home had already been updated by Ethan Allen before I invited Don to help me with my personal space. For this work I wanted someone with my own kind of sensibility and was fortunate to have found Don. My bedroom is a plain square with a closet and two windows and not very big at that. He considered the laundry issue because I live with 2 cats, I wanted feminine without doughty and my bedroom is now the only blue space in the house and yet blends easilyl with the rest of the décor. I don't think I will ever tire of being in this room at day's end. Thank you Don.

Don helped me finish my great room, which consists of my living room and dining room in our condo. When he first walked in the room, he told me I was 75% there. For the life of me, I couldn't see. He knew my budget and he helped me work within it. We used most of the furnishings and added a few new key pieces that made the room a home and brought it to new life. We are still working together adding accessories and art work. As I am always changing things up in our house, I expect and look forward to working with Don for quite some time. He's positive, creative, and most of all he listens...very well. Unlike most decorators I have worked with in the past, who create their own vision not yours. Don would be an asset to any redecorating project!

INCREDIBLE! Don is an amazing designer with a keen eye for coordinating textiles, colors and personal style. He designed our Living room, dining room, bedroom, and family room. Don worked with a few existing pieces of furniture and designed around those, further, if I wanted to be "cheap" in areas, he gladly worked with that request. I would highly recommend his talents and skills in Interior Design. His personality is delightful, he laughs and is not pushy. Enjoy your rooms designed by Don, I know we have.

Don is an exceptional designer. He designed the living room of my country home to feel extremely warm and inviting. It's a large room, but the feel is very cozy and you just want to settle into the couches and relax. Don has amazing design sense and created a vision of how he would like my living room to look. After listening to my thoughts and ideas and how I like to live in my home, he suggested many fabrics, furniture, textures, and leather to create a truly spectacular result. Don was very attentive and accommodating and encouraged me in a gentle way to step out of my comfort zone which I did and was thankful that I listened to him. Don is currently working on my NYC apartment, and I can't wait to see the results! His ideas and plans for my apartment are timeless and elegant, and at the same time warm and inviting. It's been a pleasure working with Don. He's a great person and I highly recommend him!

Don has been a tremendous source of help to my wife and myself. Being new to the Connecticut area and a new home owner we have come to rely on Don's knowledge and experience as a consultant.. Several times Don's guidence has been right on the mark. A true professional Design Consultant and outstanding customer service.

This review is long over due, but I felt compelled to commend Don on a job well done! Don helped me redecorate my bedroom during the summer of 2013, and my husband and I are so pleased with the results. Although I had ideas of my own, Don helped me pull it all together and add some wonderful decorative touches of his own. He was so helpful and accommodating with all phases of the project. He returned many phone calls in a timely manner and stopped by my home to deliver items and review the project as it progressed. He is professional, knowledgeable and personable. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for help with a decorating project or just the purchase of a fine piece of furniture.

It was a pleasure for us to work with Don Richards. He has great style and is very personable. Don worked on a total redesign of our family room in the summer of 2009. We worked with him again in 2010 through 2012 on window treatments for our bedroom and two baths, and updates to our living and dining rooms including window treatments, lighting, artwork, accessories and select furniture replacement. We would not hesitate to turn to Don for future decorating projects and have been happy to recommend him to our friends.

I have had the opportunity to work with Don on two houses. In my first house he helped me in the living room and bedroom. It turned out so well that the builders had a professional photograph the house and a series of these photos appeared on the big screen in the movie theater. I was happy to have Don design the rooms in my second house. Having only a rug in the living room, he pulled together furniture, fabrics, lamps, window coverings, and art that transformed my room into a cozy, warm room with seating for all--and all within my budget. He also helped with wall colors in all my rooms and made suggestions in how to tweak or add to what I already had. Don was very inventive with the layout of my long living room, suggesting a way to use the space that I wouldn't have thought of myself. We worked on this project over several months, layering design elements as we went along. I love the way he used fabrics and art that balanced the room and tied everything together. Communication was easy. Don listened to what I wanted and offered me choices. I live quite a ways away, but he was always willing to drive out to my house when needed. He was always available and prompt when responding to me and I ended up feeling like we were a team with the same goal. I have recommended him to others and will again. I can't wait for the completion of this project--I am waiting for the delivery of the final items. Don is a gem to work with and is obviously a very skilled designer.

I have had the privilege of working with Interior designer Don Richards since 2011 when I embarked on a project to refurnish/redesign my living room. I was absolutely thrilled with the result that Don achieved and we quickly moved onto updating my dinning room. Once again, a beautiful, beautiful outcome. I am always proud to entertain family and friends in the home that Don helped create. It is a pleasure working with Don. He truly knows his craft and the enthusiasm he brings to the design process is contagious. He makes the time to understand the customer's style, color, fabric and design preferences and overall project goal. He listens to what you "think" you want and will sometimes gently nudge you into taking subtle risks that change a potential "nice" result into a spectacular one. Don is respectful of a customer's budget restraints and invests your money wisely. He never tries to "sell" you on a product but provides guidance and expertise to help guide you to the right outcome for you. If I had to briefly describe Don Richards style it would be "classically elegant". That elegance is reflected in his work product and personality. He is a delight to work with and I look forward to my next home design project with Don Richards and the Ethan Allen team.

My experience with Don Richards began when I walked into Ethan Allen one day looking for a couple pieces of furniture for a new town home I had recently purchased and, fortunately for me, Don was the designer available that day to help me get started. Thanks to Don, what started out as just being in the market for some new furniture turned into an overall design experience. Don’s creative eye and overall vision of the space along with his ability to assess a client’s taste and style takes it to a whole new level of design that really makes the difference. He made me realize that although I was challenged with a small living room space it didn't mean I couldn't think on a larger scale. His approach was not to tell me what I should do but to show me the appropriate design elements that would work so that I too could realize the vision for the space. He was also very thoughtful about incorporating pieces I already owned with the newer pieces being brought into the design. I was so pleased with the results of Don’s work on my living room that it inspired me to begin the design process with him on my dining room. When the rooms were completed, it didn't simply become an “Ethan Allen Showroom” with Don’s taste, it became my home. Don is a true design professional and expert in his field and I would recommend him to anyone of any taste who is looking to transform their house into a home that can be enjoyed for many years to come. Having the opportunity to work with Don Richards is what continually brings me back into Ethan Allen to further enhance my home and I look forward to working with him again on my next design challenge!

Don Richards has been helping me with home design for at least 4 years and has designed my living room, bathroom and bedrom suite with fantastic results . He is THE go- to guy for help at Ethan Allen, I always trust what he is telling me and it always comes out beautifully. On top of his expertise he is wonderful to work with, always follows up with requests and makes a point of understanding your personal style before advising on anything. He never pushes, understands budget constraints and is willing to go the (millionos of ) extra miles to bring about the desired effect. Also very patient with those of us who cant make up our minds!
