Nationally Recognized Interior Designer Based in Annapolis

Ms. Katie Z. Leavy is the Owner and Principal of Capital Design LLC, an interior design firm based in Annapolis, Maryland. Ms. Leavy strives to create customized and flexible spaces which provide enhanced joy, functionality and lasting value to her clients. Ms. Leavy is a long-time advocate of the environment and deeply considers the ecological and social impacts of her work. She strives to provide her clients with design solutions that are good for people and the planet, and prioritizes renewable materials, sustainable manufacturing and ethical product sourcing in all of her projects. The work of Capital Design LLC has been seen in publications including: Metropolitan Home, Design Times, Home & Design, Hospitality Design, and the Washington Post. Additionally Ms. Leavy has written a weekly design column for the Washington Post Express and has appeared on HGTV’s Designers Challenge show. Ms. Leavy’s education began at Boston College and continued at the Rhode Island School of Design. She holds certification from the National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) since 2004 and has earned sustainable design competance through ongoing education and daily practice.

Katie was instrumental in bringing my vision for my new home to life. Having made design mistakes in the past it was important to me to work with someone who could help me define my style. She is patient, knowledgeable, resourceful, ecoconscious and most importantly easy to communicate with, which is rare these days. Her diverse experience gives her a leg up on other designers as she has seen and done it all. I highly recommend Katie as she will listen to your vision and make it happen!

Katie has a fantastic eye and is so easy to work with. She was able to take my basic vision and put it through a much more sophisticated lens. We have young kids, so what I really appreciate is her ability to balance comfort and practically with bold colors, textures, and unique pieces to make it pop. I could have never come come up with her vision, and it looks amazing. We are so happy and get compliments all the time. I’d recommend her to anyone.

Capital Design made my recent remodels stress-free and enjoyable. Katie’s eye for practical, yet stunning improvements transformed my house in Edgewater and a rental property in downtown Annapolis. The upgrades added so much value to the properties and they now have the ‘Wow’ factors they were missing. She is a pleasure to work with and has a true vision for transforming a property to its full potential. Her ideas were fresh and made the process fun. I cannot recommend Capital Design and Katie’s team enough.

Katie is amazing! Her assessment skills speak to her years of experience as she can do a quick walk through and determine your personal style while envisioning a design to maximize the function of every space. When she brought fabric and color schemes back to us, I could have closed my eyes and let my finger fall on any one of them and it would have been a perfect fit. Katie is also highly skilled at repurposing things you already have and can make a room look fresh by merely rearranging. Trust her vision and her artistic ability. She will not disappoint.

I have worked with Katie Leavy on numerous projects over the past 20 years and Katie’s design work is nothing less than stellar! Most recently Katie helped me decorate my new home, which was a huge undertaking. She created spaces that are not only highly functional and comfortable but also sophisticated and reflective of my style. Katie’s impeccable design advice, attention to detail and patience make the whole experience so much Fun! She never fails to exceed my expectations, she is truly the Best!!

Katie is an outstanding designer. Her aesthetic is versatile and she's able to work within a range of styles. She helped me with two decorating projects for condos in Washington, DC and they turned out great. Katie helped me chose a color scheme I never would have on my own. The result was something I was extremely happy with. It was "of the moment" yet had staying power for many years. Katie is also just great to work with - professional, warm, friendly, and a lovely person overall. You will not regret working with her.

Having worked with Katie Leavy, Capital Design LLC, on commercial projects for over 15 years, I share that she is an accomplished and astute interior designer. Her goal is to provide her clients with the best possible aesthetic relative to budget. Clear and documented communication are part of Katie’s business practice. She provides specifications and care instructions for all finishes and furnishings. Significant it is that Katie has an affinity for sustainability too. How furnishings are made, their lifecycle relative to how they will be used are important to Katie. She subscribes to the LEEDS mission and all that it represents! In a world that is slowly changing on industry guidelines for “Green Living” and “Wellness”, Katie brings the same care to her client’s projects as she does for her own family.
