Working with an interior designer should be an enjoyable, self-revelatory process, a journey that transforms the client’s aesthetic desires into three-dimensional reality. At a first meeting it is important to gauge the chemistry — is there an understanding, a “fit” between interior designer and client? When the chemistry is right Belle Maison principal Catherine Engelmeyer will know what a client wants without the client having to verbalize it. She’ll know when to gently push and when to acquiesce. After the consultation, the next step in working with Belle Maison is an in-depth meeting to generate direction and educate the client to possibilities. Catherine will then propose the interior design concept through floor plans and elevations, presenting color samples, fabric swatches and furniture choices. At the presentation she will explain and further educate the client as to why these choices were made. The client might suggest a direction, and Catherine will listen and then present something that fulfills this direction in ways the client could never have imagined. Catherine and her staff then call on a network of skilled craftsmen and suppliers to implement the design. This network of quality talent executes her design to the highest standards, with Belle Maison taking full responsibility for the finished product. For over twenty years Catherine has worked with homeowners as their lives have evolved. Once they experience the level of service and ability she provides, they simply cannot work with anyone else.

Catherine of Belle Maison was a god-send. She helped with every detail from lighting to carpets, wood floor stain to paint colors, wallpaper to furniture, accessories to built-ins. The artisans with whom she works (wallpaperer and painter, woodworker, plumber, vendors, art galleries, etc.) are quality professionals with high standards of excellence. Her taste is impeccable. She listens and values input, and is able to deal with high-maintenance clientele. She is able to meet deadlines, works well with everyone (architects, home owners, contractors, home owner's children!), and accommodates tight or expansive budgets. I admire and appreciate her, her talent, her staff, and her kindness.

We hired Catherine and her team at Belle Maison to facilitate a complete renovation of our family room and all new furnishings for the family and living rooms. I am very pleased with how both rooms turned out. Catherine was able combine my tastes and how our family lives with her own exquisite sensibilities to create rooms in which we love to live. There are so many details I never would have thought about that are truly the icing on the cake. Her assistance truly made what otherwise would have been a very overwhelming task, easy. We are about to begin work on another room in our home and we are look forward to creating this and many more beautiful spaces with Belle Maison.

I have worked with Catherine at Belle Maison on a few projects over the past 15 years. It has always been a delight. She always seems to understand what I want. Over the past 15 years, Belle Maison has furnished & decorated for us a large suburban home in Connecticut, an Adirondack family compound with three homes in upstate NY, a waterfront Florida home & a large corporate office space in Manhattan. In every case their involvement went well beyond decorating. They designed kitchens, designated wood choices, selected outdoor lighting, installed boathouse carpeting, moved interior walls, discovered unique antique fixtures which they adapted to modern use, identified the best & most cost effective suppliers, hired artisans, commissioned custom art & much, much more. Without exception, every project was completed with incredible creativity, professionalism, insight, cooperation & always within budget & deadlines. Catherine made sure that every home & office had a very special feel, with both practical & whimsical features that made them elegant as well as comfortable & inviting. She has an amazing eye and a truly unique style. Belle Maison staff worked seamlessly with architects, suppliers & project managers, always making the project completion their highest priority. We never encountered one dispute between Belle Maison & another contractor, supplier or manager on any of our projects.They tackled every aspect of each project and worked tirelessly to ensure even the smallest detail was addressed (when a fabric we really wanted was discontinued, Catherine tracked down the original manufacturer and convinced them to search back stock & generate another run until enough fabric was located). During all the years and all the projects, we have never had an argument or harsh word with anyone at Belle Maison. Catherine is gracious, cooperative, patient, understanding, empathetic & a really, really nice person. She never gives up, never tires, never complains & NEVER disappoints. We LOVED working with Belle Maison. Our budgets were always honored, deadlines always met, expectations always exceeded and the final results were always fabulous.

My husband and I have worked with Belle Maison for over 15 years, most recently on a major renovation project. Catherine has a wonderful eye for color and impeccable taste in selecting furniture and fabrics; she is particularly talented in designing floorplans for difficult spaces. The rooms she designs are beautiful to look at but, more importantly, comfortable to live in. Catherine listens to her clients and is very easy to work with. We recommend Belle Maison without qualification.

I have used Belle Maison for my home over the last decade and opted to do my NYC apartment more modern. Catherine brought in her signature with textured materials, colors of paint, hardware and lighting choices. The place is friendly, yet elegant at the same time. She accessorizes with interest.
