Rebuilding Michigan

Please do your research before hiring this company. They used to operate under the name Total Home Solutions. They had to dissolve that company as their unsavory business practices caught up with them, earning them an F through the BBB. Today as Rebuilding Michigan (RM) they continue to use the same practices. They sweep in and make grand plans, offer up a reasonable timeline, and draw up a contract. I hired them for a basement remodel that was supposed to take 4-6 weeks. After we had paid them a significant amount of money, we had to wait over 2 months before anyone stepped foot in our house to even start the job. We then went through several crews before we had to negotiate out of our contract. The reason for all of the delays is that the subcontractors are abused by the owners. They undercut the subs and constantly argue with them until they walk off the job. Once one crew leaves, it takes weeks for them to find someone else. They missed several scheduled appointments with city building inspectors, which causes further delays. Eight months and our project still wasn't close to being finished. My family took a huge financial loss. RM does not work in the best interests of their customers. They are standoffish and dismissive after they collect enough money. They do not answer your phone calls and do not seem to care how bad of a situation they have put you in. They do not care about your home, your family, or your time. They don't care about the quality of the work.

In this economy, it pains me to give any review that may impact the earnings of a small business but my conscience will not rest if I do not speak up. Rebuilding Michigan was contracted by me in November 2019 to primarily do a kitchen and bathroom renovation. Work finally began in January and stopped after the main representative tried to exhort money not owed. He then pulled his contractor from the job. Only when I threatened legal action was another contractor re-assigned. During that time, previously purchased supplies went missing, there was more contractor turn-over, and the interactions with the representative and the "job foreman" became more and more adversarial. The contracted 6-week job that commenced in November was not "completed" until late February. The customer service, professionalism and the workmanship was deplorable. As evidenced in the attached pictures, the job for which they were paid in full, remains unfinished. Among the myriad of issues, here are a few: tile grout was supposed to white and was never corrected; the dark grout was left on the white walls; GFI outlet was installed but is inoperable; oven door cannot open due to improper counter installation; holes in the drywall where canned lights were placed (even with the finishing rim that I purchased and installed the holes are still visible); the freezer door does not fully open due to improper installation; there are hoards of construction debris that were left on property and hidden in the garage; the step was replaced sloppily leaving unfinished areas of concrete on the porch and concrete thrown on the brick of the house; and most of the fixtures that were installed were not the ones I chose and paid for. They owe me at least $6,000. Undoubtedly, I was cheated. They should not be licensed anywhere in the United States. Please learn from my horrible experience.

This by far has been the worst experience of my life! What was to be my dream kitchen turned into a nightmare. The work done is sloppy and subpar. They left my house is shambles and my garage full of their junk They don't show up as promised but quick to try to get money from you. I was threatened by the subcontractors because they think it was because of me that they were not paid. They treated my home as if it were a shack on the side of the road by peeing on my new toilet seat to leaving cigarette butts all in my driveway. They destroyed property and didn't care because per their boss, they are not responsible for damaged property so now I have a broken fence, damaged wood floors, pipes in basement full of grout from them dumping it down my basement sink, hole in basement ceiling, ruined ladder because they used mine without asking, broken pictures and frames, the list just goes on and on. They say they are coming to fix damages and sloppy work and never show up! I now have to hire another contractor to complete and redo the sloppy work done so that my kitchen looks somewhat like I wanted. The cabinets are all hung crooked and out of place and the backsplash is sloppy, uneven and full of grout it looks like a 3 year old did it! And to add to my pain, my microwave is way to low above my stove which could cause a fire so I can't use it right now. Pictures speak volume!
