Glastonbury Housesmith is creative, imaginative, and conscious of using environmentally sensitive materials while emphasizing quality construction and finishes. Bob Dykins has enhanced our home over the course of thirty years, beginning with the transformation of a mundane screened porch into an attractive sunroom that is used daily. He has also remodeled our kitchen, added a family room, and expanded our home so that we now have a highly functional and pleasant entryway, as well as a laundry room and an additional full bathroom that can easily be accessed from the back yard. Bob has also complemented our yard with a pool house, allowing for outdoor meals as well as shelter from the sun.

I renovate houses and am adept at the more cosmetic side of that process. But when I need a true building professional to do something beyond my expertise, I call Bob at Glastonbury Housesmith. Here's a formerly cramped mid-50s kitchen that's now a beautiful open-concept space thanks to Bob's removal of 14 feet of load-bearing wall. He's helped on numerous other tasks as well, in addition to being a great source of modern building code information and great ways to solve building problems and pitfalls. Bob and his cast of subcontractors (most single proprietor masters of their respective trades) do an unbelievable job at their crafts. We wanted to build a comfortable, cozy house for our young family which would be as environmentally friendly as it could be. To do so, we planned to use some new techniques and quite a few atypical building products. Bob isn't a "builder" in the common manner. He doesn't show-up for an hour a day or so and check-in on subcontractors. He is completely hands-on and he embraced trying the techniques and products. However, in Bob fashion, he fully considered how everything would work together and made a number of improvements wherever he saw they should be made. Bob likes his homes to be good for the world and look great too. The craftmanship of everything from the framing, to the plumbing, to the trim work, to the paint job is incredible. Bob assists the subcontractors as they need an extra set of hands, but he does all of the carpentry and trim himself. You can't appreciate the attention to detail from photos. It is amazing. Resulting from Bob's intellectual approach and hard work, our house is beautiful, comfortable, strong, durable, and the most energy efficient (lowest HERS score) of any house in North America. Bob Dykins built a beautiful house for us in 2007. He and his subcontractors were excellent craftsmen with great attention to detail. He worked well with our architect and recommended some modifications which enhanced the quality of the project. Our house was completed on budget and received the first residential LEED Gold certification in Connecticut. Bob stands behind his work and doesn't hesitate to respond and correct a problem, at any time after work is completed. Several years later, Bob installed a Murphy bed for us, including associated trim and cabinets which he designed to perfectly compliment the interior design. Bob is the consummate professional.
