We have had a positive experience working with Rich and Andy. Once our project began we were informed on the details and progress. In addition we had some water issues that came up and they were very helpful in resolving those concerns. Rich also has a creative edge to him and listens which helps bring us back to our original ideas. This is super helpful because during a project ideas can get out of control. Thanks Rich and Andy!

The Buitenhuis brothers did exceptional work in our new home build back in 2008. 5+ years later, the house is in phenomenal shape - which is the sign of project very well done. You may wish to partner with an interior designer as well just so that you have a breadth of ideas going into the build or renovation.

Buitenhuis performed the first phase of our remodel in 2009, which was quite extensive. We were only able to get them then because people who had scheduled their time decided to delay until the economy had improved. They are a very high quality small company, and we waited to do the final phase of remodelling until they had time for us. Rich Buitenhuis is the architect, and Rob is the site manager/carpenter. Rob is always here EARLY in the morning, the first to arrive and often the last to leave. He is talented and conscientious, and his carpentry has make our home beautiful. This last project was a lower level walkout basement remodel, completing changing out doors and millwork throughout the three story house, taking down an upstairs wall to make a loft, making a large storage closet, and more. Two bathroom remodels were in the project. It is almost done, and has turned out beautifully. The subcontractors have worked with Buitenhuis for years, and are excellent. All are reliable, responsible, and know their work. We are thrilled with the results (and also glad to be done for good)! We used a high quality but low price porcelain tile from Lowe's. We found beautiful solid-sawn handscraped engineered wood from Vintage Flooring (related to Muskoka, and identical quality). I bought a few plumbing fixtures on-line, which I would not do in future; best to let the plumber drive where/what those purchases entail. I found a set of beautiful copper reliefs that the tile artist incorporated into the snack bar backsplash with fabulous results. You may have to wait for Buitenhuis, but it will be worth it! We would not have anyone else once we had seen and lived with/in the beautiful work they do. They stand behind their work at all times. Update, July 2013: We are thrilled with the results of our remodeling. We use the "gym" daily. The vented (to outdoors) cat box works wonderfully; no more cat litter smells. The storage and "dog closet" is also great; we finally have enough storage on the main floor. The heated floors in the bathrooms and snack bar area were especially wonderful in the winter. My husband immediately moved his desk to the "new" loft area with the lake view. The whole house is just right now, and very beautiful, comfortable and livable.
