Please note that this was a very large project. I have drafted a lengthy review because of the scope of the work performed. In summary, we loved our experience with PlayMore, especially construction manager Scott White, and would recommend this company to anyone thinking of a pool installation or remodeling.
We determined that we needed a remodel of our entire pool and deck area to update the backyard of our home. Over the course of two years, I contacted multiple companies, obtained multiple bids, and analyzed various proposals for both materials and design. In the end, PlayMore's bid included the materials that we wanted at a cost that was reasonable. I worked on this decision with owner David White, construction manager Scott White, and salesperson/advisor Russell Greer.
The project was substantial, requiring removal of all stone and concrete decking, new plaster, exterior lighting, drainage system, and changes to the electrical system. We worked on redesign plans for several weeks before deciding on travertine paver stones and flagstone coping/facades.
Demolition began promptly on schedule. The employees for the subcontractor responsible for demo were very courteous and went well beyond the normal scope of work, agreeing to save various stones from the old pool wall that could be used for a small courtyard on the side of our home. The demo lasted for several weeks and was very involved. We had no issues with any damage to items that were not intended to be destroyed. The men worked every day, including Saturdays, and kept to a prompt and precise schedule. They hauled all materials away and left our yard ready for the remainder of the job.
The next step was to install the various retaining walls, flagstone coping, and flagstone facade. The masons responsible for this were masters at their craft. Truly exceptional work. The retaining walls were built first using cinder block stones. We were able to have extensive input as to the location of the stones to make our backyard exactly how we pictured it. The flagstone facade and coping were then installed. The artisans made our pool look like a masterpiece. The process was truly remarkable to watch. The masons would ask each day how things looked and if any areas needed to be addressed. The very limited issues that arose during the construction were immediately remedied.
Following the install of the retaining walls and flagstone, the decking and drainage crew begin their work. Coincidentally, this was the same company that had been in charge of the demolition. Just as with the demo guys, the deck and drainage crew were very polite and courteous. We had an initial miscommunication regarding the angle of the pavers, but this was remedied quickly and efficiently. We had several small issues with the drainage system, even after the pavers were laid, but the crew was very prompt in their attention to remedy the situation. I was pleased with the customer service and support that I received from the deck crew.
Following the conclusion of the deck, the plaster crew came back to finish the plaster job on the pool. This process moved seamlessly.
All-in-all, the project was completed in about two and a half months. Construction would have been completed sooner, if not for the record setting rainfall in the Dallas area.
Because of the rain, various spots on the deck and areas of the flagstone cracked. These cracks, due to movement of the soil, were quickly addressed under warranty. The deck crew has actually been back to our home multiple times making sure that our paver deck is flat and to our satisfaction.
This process was so easy due to the leadership by Scott White. Scott has extensive experience in construction, and this experience was on full display in the way that he handled himself and his subcontractors during the project. Scott also provided very intuitive and creative design suggestions that really made improvements to our original ideas. PlayMore stayed on budget and would discuss with us whether we wanted to do anything that would change the initial bid. We were very impressed and highly recommend PlayMore.
