Alex was our carpenter who help design and executed (2) 9 feet tall french doors with beveled glass to separate my kitchen and living space. Not only was he instrumental in planning our doors to work with the era of our home , he also provide support with all our choices of finishes. Alex not only brought professionalism, his detail was unmatched to other carpenters that I have used in the past.

Alex built two custom french doors that fit a very narrow frame. Roughly 34 inches. The doors are really well done and we're very happy with them. He is not cheap, but he will work with your budget and help figure out ways to cut cost. Custom doors will take time and often longer than you think, but overall very pleased with his work. He had suggestions for everything and even helped my CG do stuff he wasn't fimilar with.

When we moved into our home, the previous owners had opened up the wall between the dining room and sunroom by taking the door off and making it a large entry way. As the sunroom was built off of an old screened in porch, the original exterior window of the house was opened up as well to match the entry way. While the design was open and allowed for a ton of light to come in through the sunroom, it also let a ton of cold air into the house during the Winter. We decided to install french doors in the entry way but were unsure about what to do with the space where the window once was. We toyed around with a built in cabinet or book shelf, but we really liked the light that this space provided. We decided to look into french windows (casements) for the space instead. The windows allowed for the light to come through, but would prevent a lot of that cold air from penetrating the rest of the house. Plus, it just looks cool. We got the door through our local hardware store, but the window wasn't that easy. Of course, anything for this size window (3x4) would have to be custom sized. Anderson wanted $1,200, Marvin wanted $1,500 and a variety of other manufacturers, if they made them at all were well over these figures. Seeing as this was simply an internal cold air barrier and not a complex outdoor window, there was no way I was paying that kind of money, especially because it didn't include install. So, after a month or more of searching, I called some local woodworking stores looking for a local woodworker who would be interested in fabricating the window himself. I found Alex through a small, local lumberyard who sells harder-to-find woods. He came highly recommended so I din't hesitate to give him a call. Alex responded almost immediately and was quick to make an appointment to come and see what we were working with. He showed up for our appointment on time and was courteous and easy to get along with. He helped us with some creative ideas and told us that it wouldn't be a problem. Plus, he was willing to build it, paint it and install it for less than anyone else was willing to sell us the window. He originally told us that it would take him about 3 weeks to deliver the window. Much to our surprise, we received a call about a week later, letting us know that he had finished early and could install whenever we wanted. Install day came around and he worked with us to find a time that would work with our child's nap schedule (never easy). He installed the window, the (painted) casing and the (painted) moulding in just over an hour. We couldn't of been happier with the craftsmanship or the install. We absolutely love the window and I'm so happy we spent our money locally rather than with a large out-of-state company. Alex is an amazing woodworker and an even nicer guy. It's hard to find someone with his talents that is also priced reasonably. We have some built-ins we are looking to have done down the line that we will only trust to Alex. Please don't hesitate to hire Alex for your next job, you won't regret it.

Besides the phenomenal work he completed in a timely fashion, Alex spent numerous hours of face to face consultation and creation assistance in completing this project. While we had a basis for the idea, Alex was able to incorporate everything we wanted into the piece. We could not be happier with the outcome of the project, and especially enjoyed the process. We are very happy with the cabinetry that Baltimore Architectural Detail recently designed, built and installed in our living room (See http://www.houzz.com/projects/160992/Formal-Living-Room-Built-In-2013). The built-in provides the storage, display space and lighting we wanted, and its architectural details and craftsmanship fit our house wonderfully.

Alex McPheeters at Baltimore Architectural Detail installed our VERY large and detailed new kitchen, as well as the railing and trim for a new stairway, and for a couple other rooms, as well. His attention to detail and pride in his work was evident from the first day. He ensured that he was here to work with the granite and appliance installers. All big projects come with challenges, and Alex took them all in stride, adjusting cabinet fit, designing and staining needed pieces to match, and solving whatever came up! 18 months later, the fit remins perfect, and we still love our kitchen.

Alex has a fine sense of furniture design, He is an excellent craftsman, meticulous about his work and willing to put in the time and effort required to execute a client's vision. He worked well with my design concept for custom master bath cabinetry and made useful suggestions to make it even better. He built a double vanity, custom in-wall mirrored and framed medicine cabinets, and an additional storage cabinet to match. Nice details - matching wood grains, rich staining, and tinted glass for shelves. If you are in a hurry, he may not be the one for you! The finished project was lovely.

Of the four projects completed, it's hard to pick a favorite! Each one was unique and came with it's own challenges, however they all turned out better than imagined. As a detail oriented person, I really appreciated working with someone who may be more focused than myself, which resulted in a great level of collaboration. Many suggestions were made that I had not thought of, but yet I was comfortable discussing the options and deciding on the best option for my needs and likes. 1. Front door - a repurposed fire engine red door is now perfectly restained with new frosted glass and looks like it's always been there. 2. Fire place mantle - another repurposed piece altered every so slightly to fit the space, exposing original clean brick. 3. Stair banister (okay it's my favorite) - designed together totally from scratch and such an improvement; again looks as if it's original. 4. Shower tile, vanity & medicine cabinet - the most fun to create, resulting in a much more functional and visually pleasing space. Looking for the next thing that needs to be done!

Baltimore Architectural Detail took my beautiful entertainment armoire, rendered useless by the new large flat screen tv now on my wall, and made 4 drawers where the space for the analog tv used to be. This was a tight space and I wanted the drawers to work perfectly and look like they were built with the original piece: they do. The drawers hold 950 CDs or 500 DVDs, solving another problem of where to store my collection. Baltimore Architectural Detail listened to the "problem" and found a solution beyond that which I expected. Photo included is from before the doors were reattached. Now all those CDs and DVDs disappear! Thank you!
