Hello! My name is Hannah Riedel, I am 22 years old, and I am the Owner and Operator of Handcrafted By H.E.R. From the time I could walk, I was helping my Dad in his wood shop located in a renovated barn next to the farmhouse I grew up in. Of course, back then "helping" meant peeling the dried glue off of his glue bottles and drawing stick figures in the sawdust. Twenty years later, I still spend time in my Dad's wood shop, only I'm no longer drawing stick figures. My Dad has been working out of his shop in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for over 30 years making high-quality replica antique furniture such as farm tables, Windsor chairs, and pie safes. He ends up with many large scrap pieces that would otherwise be burned in his wood stove. It seemed such a waste to just burn this beautiful and expensive furniture quality wood, so he suggested I make something useful of it. I jumped at the opportunity and am so happy I got the chance to develop such a rewarding skill. My Dad has taught me everything I know; I am blessed to have such an experienced and helpful teacher. You will notice that many of my cutting boards are made from a single board and not several glued together. Boards this wide are nearly impossible to come by, but my Dad buys them directly from a privately owned lumber mill in northern PA, so we get the good stuff. Because the materials that I use are "scrap pieces", I am able to offer items made from top quality, furniture grade wood for much less than the average woodworker selling similar products. So far, I have been selling my items on Ebay and Etsy and in various craft shows, but none of those venues seem to attract the kind of audience I would best serve. I would love to work one-on-one with you to help create the perfect accent piece to any kitchen: a high-quality wooden cutting board, rolling pin, or table made from some of the best lumber on the East Coast.
