FMW|fablab Furniture & Everyday Wares is a guy and a girl, a shop, some tools and a bunch of dogs. The guy, in the shop with his tools, produces at least one of the following and sometimes all of them: useful things, useless things, beautiful things, handy things, creative things, recycled things or brand spanking new things. The dogs produce nothing but occasional entertainment. The girl tries to hold it all together. We are Ford & Hillary Waters; the guy and the girl. In December of 2012, we found ourselves in the interesting life situation of having to decide "what's next". FMW|fablab was the answer. We design and build furniture, art and everyday wares using metal and wood in Houston, Texas's historic Greater East End neighborhood. Although we do have a few pieces made from virgin resources, we specialize in reclaimed and upcycled materials and manage to make almost every single scrap into an object of beauty and function. Our work is very personal to us and we are always excited to see a piece “adopted”.We do what we do because we love it, but we also have the experience to back it up. Ford learned how to weld aluminum when he was 14 years old via the family business and it is still his favorite metal to work with many years later. That skill combined with Hillary's 18+ year career as a licensed, commercial interior designer makes us a dynamic team. Our unique combinations of materials in an eclectic mix of modern and traditional styles mean that most of our pieces work in just about any residential or commercial setting.
