MW Design was great from start to finish during our recent, full-home remodel. They were skilled, creative, and communicative. I highly recommend them.

We worked with Matt on a remodel of a 1920’s home that had never had a major remodel. We wanted an updated house that retained it’s original character. Matt balanced these needs beautifully. He worked closely with us, listening to our ideas and making suggestions. And he stayed involved throughout the project. Matt turned our small, one person kitchen into an eat-in kitchen with an island to allow for multiple cooks. To do this, he moved a powder room into a closet and added a pantry in place of our breakfast nook. We now have a bigger kitchen with more storage and only lost one small closet. Upstairs, Matt expanded the bathrooms and closets, with a bonus walk in closet for me. We made the office smaller to accommodate, but with all of the added storage, we no longer needed a large office. We were novices and Matt gently guided us through the decision process, worked closely with our designer and contractor to build our dream house. I whole heartily recommend Matt.

His proposal broke down the elements and timelines of how to get our request fully permitted and approved, and we’ve never felt so at ease and well informed as we did with him running the show. Our house had a major remodel in 2018. The downstairs bedroom and bathroom were completely remodeled into the family den with two window seats while the bathroom was relocated next to an exterior wall for natural light through two windows. Upstairs involved a major kitchen upgrade with an island, new cabinetry and kitchen appliances. We knew what we wanted but we were not exactly sure on how to achieve our goal. The downstairs was a cold, dark basement room on a concrete slab. The single-pane windows with aluminum framing were located under a deck which made everything downstairs dark and dismal. The upstairs kitchen was barely functional. Upon meeting with our general contractor, we were advised to contact MW Design as the architect for our remodel. We had a previous, unhappy encounter with an architect who had gone over the top with our remodel design. Despite being very clear on what we wanted for our project and amount we were prepared to spend, he came up with a third floor and a project that was more than three times over our budget. And we were disappointed with his plans that we held off on remodeling. MW Design was completely different from that experience. Matt listened to our requests and made suggestions to make our basement room more inviting. A closet next to an exterior wall was removed and French doors were installed. Two window seats were added and the other exterior door was half-glass. The crawl space was relocated which allowed for a delightful bathroom with a glass shower, wall-mounted toilet and vanity to be installed with two small windows. The kitchen had a very dated look with a bank of cabinets suspended from the ceiling. Even though we were losing some cabinet space, we were able to regain some of that space with our kitchen island. The kitchen design allows for more than one person to be working and it invites guests to gather around. Matt even convinced us to install a cabinet microwave. MW Design took care of the city building permits and our planning department is quite rigid and demanding. Everything that Matt did for us was an improvement had we tried to come up with a plan. At the last minute, we even decided to replace our redwood deck. While the beams could not be structurally changed, we added a Trek deck and privacy walls on two sides with cable railings for an unobstructed view of the trees. From the living room and kitchen, the deck is a natural extension of the house and it is so much easier to maintain. We used to be embarrassed to have people stop by for a visit. Things have changed so dramatically and now we want our friends to see us at home. Our house is very small but it is very comfortable and welcoming. And the downstairs den and bathroom both have heated tile flooring. From our window seats, we can observe deer, gray foxes, hawks and other wildlife in our backyard; things that we missed out for too many years.

Matt did a great job and helped us solve a problem that no other architect could . He was efficient and helpful in helping us create our addition . The addition has now become our Serenity room and become the heart of ur home life . Thanks Matt

Matt helped us efficiently turn our ideas into reality with cleanly drafted plans and 3D renders. Matt was incredibly easy to work with and responsive to our comments and concerns. We added a new bedroom, new master bathroom, and completely replaced the existing kitchen and bathrooms.

We used Matt for a bathroom remodel (to the studs) and a breakfast room redesign. Matt worked tirelessly with us sketching ideas, executing a plan and working within our budget. Matt factored in our family's needs and lifestyle in the final design, and was patient with our many questions. Once underway, we leaned on Matt again for help navigating a few construction surprises. He was quick to respond with his creative solutions and ideas.

We consulted with Matt to come up with some design ideas for our kitchen. We didn't want to open up any walls to maintain the original feel of our traditional home. Matt was able to come up with some innovative and interesting ideas for us that really got us thinking about the possibilities of what we could do with the space of our kitchen.
