Georgia native L. Joel Martens, principle of LJM Home Design, Inc., has been practicing residential design in metro Atlanta for more than twenty years. While working in the residential construction field throughout the Southeast, Joel earned a degree in Business Administration/Accounting from Berry College in 1986 and later graduated from Southern College of Technology in Architectural Engineering in 1989. For the next fifteen years, Joel had the privilege to work as Director of Architecture for a number of metro Atlanta’s best speculative and custom homebuilders. This experience in residential design and production building enabled Joel to sharpen his abilities as a designer and stream line plan production. Past employers have received awards from HBAMA’s “Builder of the Year” to J.D. Powers’ 2003 Customer Satisfaction Survey “Best Home Designs” as well as Ernst & Young’s 2005 “Entrepreneur of the Year in Real Estate and Construction” (Southeast). In 2006 LJM Home Design, Inc. was formed to address the need to produce plans for multiple clients. 80% of work produced is for area homebuilders and developers that are repeat customers.
