An established Hudson Valley-based architect, Kathryn Whitman brings to each project a love for the beauty and history of this unique part of the country, a refined sensibility, extensive knowledge of contemporary design, and a rich background in historic restoration. She listens to each client as they describe in detail the home they envision, be it a from-the-ground up project or a re-design of an existing structure. From there, she develops a cohesive, workable plan of action that addresses the client’s lifestyle and budget, collaboratively incorporates the appropriate look and desired function of the structure. In the process of drawing it, she guides the aesthetics of the project, all the while considering the layout decisions down to the finishes and final design elements.
Kathryn graduated from Mount Holyoke and The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art / The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture. Prior to starting her own firm, she spent fifteen years as an Associate of the distinguished NYC architecture firm PBDW / Platt Byard Dovell White where she specialized in restoration and adaptive reuse. She was responsible for all aspects of project management from design to construction documentation and administration, budgeting and invoicing. Astor Courts, The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, and the Park Avenue Armory are among the projects on which she worked.
Since establishing Kathryn Whitman Architecture in 2014, she has focused her considerable design talents on residential projects ranging from New Construction to Renovations, Historic Preservation, and Interior Transformation of existing spaces.
Kathryn is a member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) and a LEED Accredited Professional. In addition, she completed the RESTORE Certificate Program in masonry restoration.
