We engaged KWA to help us design a challenging extension to our Grade II listed home in East Sussex. Throughout the design phase and the complex but ultimately successful planning application, it was a real pleasure working with Karenna and the team. She listened to our requests and understood what we were looking for, had great design ideas, and helped engage a historic building consultant to work through the inevitable challenges with making changes to a listed building. We would not hesitate to recommend KWA to others, or engage them on future projects of our own.

Amicus Property Camber Kent

Karenna and her team worked with us to design a new property in Camber, Kent and guide us through the planning process. It was an absolute pleasure working with Karenna and Karen - who were both very professional, knowledgeable, collaborative and patient as we worked through multiple iterations and what became a lengthy planning approval process. The result is a fantastic design which has satisfied the planning department and is both eco friendly and sympathetic to the plot and the location.

We commissioned Karenna and her fantastic team to help design and apply for planning an extension to our house and an additional detached garage, office summer room, They met with my wife and I at our home to discuss the brief, and to walk round our property to get a feel for the environment and surrounding area they would be developing. We explained that our development must be sympathetic to its current environment and look like it had always been there. They presented us with several plans to review and were patient with us as we merge one plan with another until we were happy with a design that met the brief and suited our living requirements. They were great at managing our expectation whilst pushing the boundaries on what was achievable. They walked us through every step of the planning process as well as arranging the numerous survey required for a development in AONB. Furthermore they assisted with several planning application amendments, with numerous design changes which satisfied us and the planners. It was a pleasure working on this project with both Karenna and Karen, they were fun, skilled and considerate with us throughout the whole process, we cannot wait for them to see their work come to life.

Recognising that our project [the reconfiguration & modernisation of an unusual old building in which we have lived for 38 years] & approach have both been problematical with Karenna having to cope with our somewhat disparate views on a number of issues, she has done remarkably well. [I suspect in her place I may well have suggested finding an alternative architect!] None of this was helped by the complications of the pandemic over the 2 years it has taken - & then there has been the added distress as a consequence of tenancy problems. Somehow we have all managed to stay the course & we are both very appreciative of Karenna's patience & steadfastness & very pleased with the final result. Now all we need to do is hope that the 2 dimensional plans will be eventually translated into at least 3 dimensions [& preferably 4].

Karenna is seriously talented, not only in her designs but also in her ability to really understand how we would live in the house. Her design brought light and space into a dark victorian but did not compromise on anything that my elderly parents needed. I trust her and would work with her again in a heartbeat.

Karenna was very helpful in pulling together a design for our extension. It was a difficult Grade-II listed site and she introduced us to a number of interesting ideas. Karenna and her team were very helpful in preparing our planning application for an extension. The team were all very pleasant to deal with and they engaged well with us, listened to and sought our input, and produced plans that met our expectations. We selected Karenna to help us with our project in the South Downs National Park which involved putting an extension on the rear of our house to create a 60 sq metre open planned kitchen, dining and TV area and totally refurbishing the rest of the house. This included moving some internal walls and windows upstairs, installing underfloor heating downstairs putting a new staircase in and replacing 3 bathrooms and a WC. Karenna helped us look at options prior to dealing with our planning application. She then oversaw the tender process to select a builder and provided management services during the construction works to oversee progress and validate payment applications. We have ended up with a fantastic ‘new’ home which has exceeded our expectations.

We found Karenna to be very helpful in her advice, drawings and guidance especially as we were living so far away from the renovation works. Karenna brought a major extension to a grade 2 listed building to final review by the planners. It involved an extension to house a disabled lift and ramped access from the rear garage. At the last moment the propoerty was sold to a cash buyer.

We hired Karenna Wilford Architects from a long list of firms based on the quality and technical experience demonstrated in comparison to other architects in our first meeting. Karenna has been helpful, clear and professional in guiding us through the project. We have found her suggestions on the design to have really enhanced the look and feel of the house, both with the external aesthetic but particularly for the internal layout. Karenna is happy to advise, guide and offer opinion based on experience, but importantly willing to talk through and consider compromise as a result of discussions with ourselves, building contractors and architect design. This is the second time that I have used Karenna Wilford Architects. I asked her to provide a re-design for a tired and badly laid out property. Karenna went beyond the brief (at no extra cost) and produced three different designs to meet different budget levels for potential purchasers. Karenna liaised with the appointed estate agent and his feedback has been exceptional. Karenna’s three designs are innovative and made the most of the amazing site but were also realistic in terms of feasibility. I would have no hesitation in recommending Karenna and her team.

Karenna acted as architect to a major complex renovation project we carried out from July 2018 to January 2019. She helped us come up a scheme to make the most of the space and light in our small cottage. Karenna was very professional and we developed a good working relationship. She has good local connections that made obtaining planning straightforward in this conservation area. Karenna also helped us to ensure that the build was carried out successfully. The only thing that could have been even better was ensuring that we got a more accurate quote for our plans, so as to avoid a redesign once we got competitive quotes.

Karenna Wilford Architects were recommended to us by a planning consultant for our large extension and refurbishment. Karenna is professional, efficient and easy to work with. We were delighted when planning permission for the extension was granted. KWA project managed all the building works. We had a main contractor, some specialised contractors from overseas and interior designers and Karenna liaised with all parties involved, keeping her cool during sometimes tricky situations.
