Ehoma brought great design, urban planning, and space planning expertise to our project in Manchester as well as liaising both with the wider professional team and client team in an extremely professional manner to the success of the project.

We asked Curtis Martyn of EOHMA to help us gain planning consent for some changes to our Grade II listed house in Didsbury. These included structural changes to outer walls, conversion of a window to French doors, the creation of an opening in the (listed) wall of our courtyard garden, and some soft landscaping around the property. Curtis listened carefully to everything we wanted and gave us plenty of time to consider options. EOHMA then prepared the planning application in a very thorough and professional manner with great attention to detail. The drawings were of a high standard, and the overall application fully reflected our vision. In preparing the planning application, Curtis was sensitive to both our own aspirations as well as the needs of the building, especially regulatory and conservation requirements. He was able to translate these needs into plans in a manner that was ultimately acceptable to the Council. Listed Building Consent is not straightforward, and the initial planning application received critical comments from the Council; they also raised questions about the status of previous alterations to the structure. Curtis dealt with the unexpected questions from the Council with the right balance of patience, persistence and thoroughness, taking on board the Council’s comments and making adjustments to the application to secure planning consent. Curtis shepherded the application through the specific planning requirements and in doing so, took much stress off us. He listened to our frustrations and disappointment, gave us good advice, and managed to turn the application round successfully. Throughout the process he kept in regular contact, was open and honest, and adhered to the agreed budget. We would not hesitate to recommend EOHMA.

Eohma started work redesigning a brand new 6 bedroom house with impressive detail. Working with Curtis has been a pleasure, throughout the designing of our house he has been on the same page as us, listening to all our needs and is excellent at picturing our end result. We are now in the process of acquiring planning permission and are very happy with the whole relationship thus far. Having recently purchased my home, I contacted Curtis Martyn of EOHMA Architects to the discuss and the feasibility of a single storey rear extension to house a kitchen, dining area and snug area and a double storey extension that would provide an extra bedroom, bathroom and provide more space within the hall area. Throughout the entire process, Curtis's approach was one of professionalism with a clear understanding of my vision. Curtis was very thorough and guided me through each room and area, making fabulous creative suggestions that I would never have thought about. The final plans and drawings exceeded my expectations. To embark on a refurbishment project can be overwhelming. Curtis's wraparound service included producing the plans/drawings, communicating with the planning department and submitting the application for planning permission. At every stage Curtis provided me with regular written and verbal updates and any queries dealt with effectively. I found the whole process smooth and now have the required permission to proceed with my project.

We worked with Curtis Martyn of EOHMA Architects , to gain Listed Building Consent, for our Grade II listed house in South Manchester. We were seeking to make structural changes to outer walls- addition of a window in the back wall of the house, and doorways from courtyards to land at the back of the house. Internally we wanted to refurbish a number of rooms and also make structural changes to add an en-suite to the main bedroom. Refurbishment of the kitchen was also included. Listed Building Consent was gained for all aspects of the work. Throughout the project Curtis was totally professional; listening carefully to our requirements, turning them into reality, via drawings and surveys and advising us on things that may/may not work. The quality of his work was very impressive and the submission he made to the Planning Department outstanding. We agreed a budget for the work and this was strictly adhered to. The work was delivered in a very timely manner. As Listed Building Consent is a complicated area, Curtis thoroughly researched the nuances of this and we were able to submit a comprehensive and appropriate application. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone seeking an architect and indeed we already have done.

Having a property which required a full renovation and provided a blank canvas for me create into anything I wanted was overwhelming. I met with Curtis from Eohma at the property and he provided a consultation in which he was able to skillfully hone in on the what I wanted out of the property together with ideas on how to use space and ensure I didn't do more than what was necessary. The plans that were drawn up by Cutis helped translate the ideas to a platform by which I could communicate with the contractor. Curtis' support in enabling me to realise what I wanted from the property was invaluable.

I engaged Eohma to complete plans for a two storey side extension to my property and take it through planning. Curtis was very professional and personal through the process, taking time to understand my needs as well as proposing solutions where problems had arisen. He was open and honest about the process and as a result took the pressure off me. In addition the quality of the drawings allowed for builders to easily quote for the work.

Professional, enthusiastic and with great attention to detail I contacted Curtis in relation to a houses to flats conversion which required planning permission. The conversion had been started by the previous owner but following completion , the council had served a prohibition order deeming the building unsafe and informed me that no planning had been requested and therefore, a retrospective application was required. Curtis didn’t just take this for granted and before getting on with the drawings, he took the initiative to probe the validity of these claims and in his research, found a historical application which had been approved. He then took it upon himself to contact the council and successfully argued that no application was required which spared me the application fees as well as a long waiting time and meant that work could proceed straight away. This wouldn’t have happened had it not been for his initiative and attention to detail. His attitude towards the project really made him stand out so I would certainly recommend him and engage his services again in the future.

During our time working with Curtis we found him to be dedicated, openminded, experimental and respectful of our ideas and needs” We found that Curtis was very flexible and able to meet with us at in the day or evenings at times that suited our busy schedules. Following his appointment, our first meeting with Curtis was based around him taking internal and external photographs of our property from different angles and measurements for his calculations. Our second meeting consisted of Curtis producing sketches of our property to explain the options we could have. At the same time he enquired what our life aspirations were and what the family wanted to get out of the development of our home. For example; What were our needs regarding space? What were our requirements regarding storage and appliances? What emotions we would like to have once the work is complete? The questioning was never too personal and very respectful. We knew what direction we wanted to go in but Curtis pushed us even further with great ideas there were sympathetic to the existing fabric of the property. What stood out most about Curtis' service was his willingness to want to learn from his client's ideas. We found this extremely helpful but also unexpected, It allowed us to really think about the big issues but also tackle those much smaller details that can be forgotten until it’s too late to rectify. This was clearly a way Curtis gained a better idea of our physical and emotional aspirations and it certainly worked. His enthusiasm to seek out every detail was fantastic and even though Curtis is young and gaining experience you could tell he was using every aspect of knowledge from his studies. He was extremely prompt with visits, emails, paperwork and general communication - we never felt alone and unsupported. Curtis also made the necessary applications to the local authority on our behalf which was a great help to us. Our third meet consisted of Curtis producing professional architectural drawings which for the first time gave us a better idea of what the property would look like with the new rear extension and new room to the basement. It provided us with a sense of excitement of how our home lives were going to change. The results exceeded our expectations and we were completely satisfied with the service. Curtis certainly fixed a long standing problem of turning our dark kitchen/dining area into a light, easy flowing contemporary hub. He made it one of his priorities to enquire what we wanted from textures and fabrics to the emotional vibe of the home. We found that his manner made us feel at ease from the start and nothing was ever too much for him. His dedication and pride to his craft would make any client feel at ease. Our young children comment on how happy and proud they are of their home and that in our opinion is a job done. We would without a shadow of a doubt recommend Curtis' services to anyone and have done. If asked why, we would confidently say because he is genuine and dedicated to his craft.
