Clinkston Architects

We chose David Clinkston of Clinkston Architects to design a radical remodel of a 20+ year-old home in the Methow Valley of northeastern Washington State. In planning the project, we had a number of constraints: we wanted to use the existing infrastructure (foundation, septic, plumbing,) we needed to completely change the roofline, we wanted to maximize the view, we had a large amount of basement dead space we wanted to reconfigure, we desired a re-routing of a staircase and wanted new square footage to include an entrance mud room and a new great room. In addition, we had a strict budget. David worked with us over several months to design several options for our remodel and we were extremely pleased with the range of options he presented. He also helped us find a general contractor, Mike Hilton of Hilton Construction in Winthrop, WA. In addition, when minor changes were necessary for budget concerns and aesthetic preferences, David was able to work with us to accomplish those goals. David has a great capacity for vision of design and an innate sense of attention to detail. His brilliant redesign transformed a dark, inefficient, maintenance-heavy cabin into a bright, bold contemporary house that embraces the landscape and maximizes view and functionality.

David is the ultimate pro. My wife and I had never been through a building project and he worked patiently with us to help deliver our vision of a getaway home. There were many constraints, the home has an elevator, special areas to care for a special needs child and also must meet the design requirements of resort. I'm an interior designer who collaborated with Clinkston Architects on a project. David is a good, solid architect. He works hard for his clients. He is caring and involved every step of the way and gives everything he does his all. What client wouldn't want that! Best of all, his work is good, yet he doesn't let his ego get in the way.
