LINEA is a multi-disciplinary design firm with 20 years' experience with custom homes, additions, commercial upfits, renovations and outdoor living. Our talented staff works with Architects, Engineers, and Builders to help you make your project a reality. We are experts in the Design-Build project delivery method and enjoy sharing construction administration experience and the pit falls of the construction process in general. The firm lineage dates back to 2000 when Steven founded Brown Dog Designs. In 2012, with his eventual Architecture and General Contracting licensure, he founded A408 Studio as both a Design-Build Architecture firm and General Contractor. In 2016 Steven closed A408 to focus on Architecture only, and Steven Johnson Architect PLLC (SJA) was born. In early 2023 Steven, brought on Elizabeth Lufbery as his Lead Interiors and Residential Designer. Steven closed SJA in late 2023 to pursue interests with other Architecture opportunities and is now referring all clients to Elizabeth as she continues Steven's vision of high quality, design-first residential Architecture with LINEA, the future of residential design solutions.

We hired steve in 2017 as an architect based on TA Garners (builder) recommendation. Steve was very helpful in steering us in the right direction. Over a year we went from a screened in porch to a vaulted great room design and an extensive front entrance remodel. We had a number of meetings on site and regular email communication for a year. Steve steered us to a good set of modifications that should enhance the value of our home. We are in the process of hiring a builder as of 12/18 and will include before and after pictures if these reviews can be edited at a later date. Steve was very personable and had good advice.

Steve is the consummate professional. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Steve both professionally and as a client. Steve is extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. He takes the time to listen to his client’s needs and offers creative solutions that work both structurally and aesthetically. He took our ideas and turned them into reality without losing sight of our original vision. It’s been a pleasure working with him.

Steve and Janet took our initial thoughts and ideas and brought them to life. These two are a team and create a strong synergy with their architecture, interior design, and project management expertise. They are patient, detailed, and talented and built us a very nice building that is suiting it's purpose perfectly.

Steve Johnson was the design architect on our condo redesign project. We took a first floor 1980s formal colonial liviing/dining/ kitchen and sitting rooms and transformed them into an open space contemporary living area. This was approx. 1,000 sq. feet. In addition to his expertise, Steve's communication skills are excellent, which means he makes a great partner for his clients. We had some very definitive concepts and elements that we wanted in our renovation and Steve made them happen. He was also a great adviiser regarding the pros and cons of various choices and selections. He was always willing to do the research to answer questions on everything from cree lighting to cabinetry to grout and more. We were committed to making as many sustainable choices as possible within our budget, and Steve was invested in this process. We were very lucky to have partnered with him.

Janet and Steve make an awesome team! They are always looking out for what we want and not what is the easy way out. Always available and ready to answer our numerous questions. They respected our thoughts and wants, but if they felt something may not work out despite all efforts, they were not afraid to tell us . I respect that ! We interviewed several builders, yet Janet and Steve offered us what we were looking for. Not a hard decision and very happy that we decided to go with them. Building a "home" is never an easy process. your dreams and fears are all rolled in one, yet Janet and Steve have made sure that we will be proud to call our house a "home".

Steve Johnson helped us design and build our dream living space. Recently relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina we had a plan to entirely reinvent our first floor living space. We interviewed several architects before we met Steve. All the architects we met were talented, experienced and came with solid recommendations. Here’s why we chose Steve: Steve comes to each project he works on with a mission to satisfy his client. His experience, talent, up-to-date skills, and his awareness, training and certifications in sustainable building practices make him the right match for clients searching for a 21st century approach to architectural design work. What gives Steve the advantage, however, is his talent for carefully listening to his clients. The ability to truly listen to clients about what they want and do not want gives him an advantage over the competition. He then becomes a collaborator with his clients. The architect’s imagination he brings to a project is grounded in “real world” build knowledge. He cares about end results.

I highly recommend doing business with this company, and I will absolutely use them again if a future need arises. The owners of the company and the construction firm they used were extremely professional, efficient, and reliable. Communication was excellent, and my questions and concerns were addressed and acted on in a timely manner. It was a very easy, stress free process, and I absolutely love my new sun room and downstairs half bath! I feel like I have made new friends through this experience, and I have begun and will continue to promote them and their services. Thank you to Steve, Janet, and Jim!
