Smith & Sons Doncaster

We recently moved into our renovated home after 8 &1/2 months. This was an extensive renovation with only the 2 front rooms of the Victorian style house staying the same and the rest of the house being knocked down. A new bathroom, laundry, kitchen and open living area were built, with 1 room, ensuite, attic and walk in robe built upstairs. Bifold doors were fitted in the living area with an extensive deck leading to the grass area out the back. The build was on time and on budget. Variations we requested were incorporated in the build with no problems and the costs associated were clearly communicated. Matt's (project manager) communication was good and he consistently responded to emails or phone calls within a few days. At the completion of the build, various things needed addressing and Matt has been excellent in following all of these up to our expectations. We are really happy with our renovated home and would definitely recommend Matt and Smith & Sons Doncaster.

If you are looking for quality and reliability at a reasonable price, then read on. I am more than happy with my experiences with Matt from Smith & Sons Doncaster. Matt did a wonderful job completing a double storey extension to our Park Orchards home back in 2009, so it was without hesitation that my husband and I approached him to quote to renovate our new Donvale home. On both occasions, we were extremely happy with Matt’s communication, service and reasonable price and the quality of workmanship and end result. We have now completely transformed our 13 year old home by taking out walls which included installing massive steel support beams and moved the kitchen to a completely different location, which wasn’t easy because we're on a concrete slab and needed to move the the plumbing and electrics, but thankfully Matt knew what to do and the right tradespeople to use. My Interior Designer recently commented “I can tell you’ve had quality tradespeople work on your home; it makes a big difference”. Both extentions were seamless and look like they were part of the original house design. We found Matt to be extremely professional and honest with excellent communication & organisation skills. With his advice, he helped us to save money without compromising the end result. His tradesmen were reliable and respectful and completed an excellent job. I would have no hesitations in recommending Matt to anyone wanting to build or renovate, in fact I already have and they were just as happy as we are. Highly recommended!

Smith & Sons Doncaster completed our new build in December 2013. The home is extremely energy efficient rated around 9.5 stars and was awarded the Highly Commended Sustainability Award for a new build in October 2014 from the shire of Nillumbik, Victoria. We met with Matt from Smith & Sons Doncaster after experiencing difficulties with a local building company. We researched his work by viewing other builds, speaking to former clients and then met with Matt with an outline of what we wanted. After receiving a benchmark figure we cancelled our initial contract and signed up with Smith & Sons Doncaster. Smith & Sons Doncaster started afresh and guided us through the planning process. Matt was always pleasant, thorough in his work, detailed and kept to budget. Where changes to the plan were requested, Matt was able to meet these requests without any red tape. He also made suggestions i.e. top of balustrade. One of the major setbacks was a lengthy delay with our windows coming from Ireland (outside the building contract). This was further compounded with one set of windows being the wrong size. This delay ended up taking nearly 6 months and yet, despite this setback, we were in our home one week prior Christmas 2013, as initially requested. The tradespeople people Matt uses are also very good at their trade and all issues were dealt with promptly. We are constantly having people compliment the build for its lovely modern, Australian design. It is an easy, low maintenance home which as per our requirements for energy efficiency, keeps warm in winter and cool in summer. Building with Smith & Sons Doncaster was great as we got to have much input into our specifications and anything we wanted included in the build was addressed and included without huge add-ons. Matt from Smith & Sons Doncaster already has friends of ours he is now working for. It was the best move we made to change building companies.
