Over the years I have worked with Charles doing custom cabinetry on many of his homes including his personal residence. His attention to detail is off the charts. His homes are incredibly well built and thoughtfully designed. He is very demanding of his subs, but fair. Once they understand all that he is asking for is perfection, then he is very easy to get along with. If I were looking to have a very high quality house built, Charles would be the first person I would call.

We evaluated many general contractors. We chose Charles Lathrem and are very glad that we did. We planned our custom home on a budget utilizing only myself, Charles, a draftsman, and subcontractors chosen by Charles. I estimate that we spent less than 20% of what it would have cost to use an architect. We could not have done it without Charles. We had unexpected problems during excavation but that did not stop Charles from bringing the project through one week early. We might have been able to find someone as meticulous as Charles or someone as sensitive and caring but I don't think we could have found both attributes in one contractor. Building a custom home is full of stress but Charles decreased that by taking care of things automatically rather than troubling us with another decision. After the first few weeks, I learned to say: "Charles, just do what you think is best." All of his subcontractors were great. The only ones we had problems with were the ones we chose!!! Lathrem Homebuilders was hired to do a remodel of the Master Bedroom wing of our house as well as installation of a new Kitchen Backsplash and Replacement of Baseboards through out the House. The Master Bedroom Wing work consisted of new tub and fixtures, new shower fixtures, new double vanity fixtures as well as new flooring in the Bath, Bedroom, Master Closet, and a new closet system. This work was well scheduled with no down time and met our strict completion date as promised. Charles Lathrem uses professional very highly skilled subcontractors. Charles kept us very well informed through out the course of the work as to what was going to happen next and how long he anticipated that phase of the work to complete. The Cost for the Project was very much in line with the Budget he and I discussed. His eye for detail is second to none, and his ideas are well thought out and explained very well. If I have any work preformed in the future, I hope I can have Charles Lathrem as my Contractor.

If it were possible to give MORE than just FIVE stars, I'd do so for Charles Lathrem of Lathrem Homebuilders! Our home was completed ON TIME and on BUDGET, despite falling under the County's onerous and restrictive "hillside ordinance" which placed numerous restrictions on WHAT could be built and HOW it could be built. Through all of those "hurdles" Charles was there. Charles' forte is attention to detail and "foreward-thinking". As an example: I found him outside on his knees beside "the stucco guy" removing the flange around a window. His explanation was "I've seen a problem with this type of installation in the past". And that it would be "better for ME to fix NOW than for YOU to have to fix it 'in a few years'". So, if there was even a POSSIBILITY of something being a PROBLEM in the FUTURE, Charles was all about circumventing that eventuality. The nearest neighbor commented that he'd never seen a contractor "on site" as much as Charles--which saved us a lot of headaches, certainly. The house passed every inspection on the FIRST try due to Charles' attentiveness, so there were no delays with "fixing things" that "Code" said were done incorrectly. Besides being extremely competent and experienced in high-end homes, conscientious and talented, he's just an "all-around-NICE" guy! Charles' reputation for attention to detail is evidenced by the respect that he's paid by his sub-contractors: The "tile guy" was installing a custom "mural" in one of the showers. Charles questioned whether it was "exactly square". After Charles left the site, the installer REMOVED the mural, trimmed the edges and re-installed it. When I asked the installer about this, he said, "I knew that Charles would only be happy with 'the best' and 'I aim to please'!" That is the level of respect that the sub-contractors have for Charles' judgment and expertise. And Charles also has keen judgment as to WHICH sub-contractors will "do the best job" for the individual client and their particular needs. In my opinion, Charles Lathrem of Lathrem Homebuilders is the absolute BEST homebuilder in the entire Tucson area--bar none.

Charles Lathrem Homebuilders originally built my current home over 10 years ago and while I'm the second owner of the home, he's treated me and my family with the highest level of respect. Whenever we have an inquiry about our home, he's quick to reply to my emails or phone calls. He is extremely thorough, knowledgeable and honest. In fact when we hired him for some major exterior work in 2013, he did such an excellent job I would have no hesitation in recommending him to any other individual or business considering hiring his company.
