This contractor was willing to come in and complete a renovation that another had started and was unable to complete. They were easy to work with and very professional. They did a great job. Very meticulous work. I have since had them do some smaller projects with equal success. Very knowledgeable crews and coordinated well with subs.

I have worked with Arktikos Custom Builders for many years as their plumber. The crew is professional, talented and reliable. They are easy to work with and are able to deal with unforeseen issues that show up on every project. They have very good design vision and ideas. A very efficient house seems to be one of their main priority.

Working with Doug Seim and his excellent team of carpenters and tradesmen and his wife, Deb White, who helps with logistics, was a complete joy. Doug served a multi-faceted role as designer of the house, general contractor and interior designer. I could not be more happy with the results. In a part of Northern Minnesota where weather is a big factor, the job came in on time and within tolerable limits of budget, given the changes. I would not hesitate to recommend Arktikos to another owner.

We had Doug Seim and Arktikos do major work on our Minnesota cabin. The project involved removal of the entire roof structure and building a new superstructure with metal roof, a steeper pitch, and exposed beams inside, as well as other work on the inside. We were completely satisfied with the design, the professionalism, and the workmanship, and would happily recommend Arktikos to clients seeking excellent work.

Arktikos built our home perfectly-- long distance!!! We lived in the Twin Cities and were amazed and impressed with the communication (even dvd pictures of current progress), the professionalism and the continuous kindness and courtesy. Their knowledge especially was appreciated due to building off the grid and being totally solar powered.

Back in the late 90's my wife and I invested in some real estate near Grand Marais. A surveyor we did some work with gave us a recommendation for a building contractor. One of our properties had a structurally-sound cabin on it, but was in dire need of a complete overhaul. We contacted Arktikos Builders and began a very productive, longterm relationship. Arktikos provided a creative, efficient design addressing the entire interior and exterior of the cabin. Prior to that we spent modest, but comprehensive time discussing what we would like in the cabin; and how to deal with limited space, an existing loft, the need for a specially-designed staircase, small bath, kitchen, and surrounding deck. Arktikos' design and drawings were excellent and we made very few adjustments. Given the space limitations, we were very pleased with their creative efforts which delivered a loft-bedroom with a wide view of Lake Superior, a wonderful, shipboard-style staircase, bath with a shower, living room, kitchen and storage area. On the outside, the siding, metal roof and deck were all virtually maintenance-free. Interestingly, we specified very little relative to inside treatments including flooring, custom cabinetry, wall treatments and colors. Arktikos provided all of that through samples and recommendations, which still gave us plenty of choice, especially with very affordable, new wood windows throughout. Almost all of their suggestions met with our enthusiastic approval. The result is a cozy, up-north escape that has enriched our lives. We strongly recommend Arktikos, and just recently discussed putting up an additional structure near our cabin. They have been there for us for 10-12 years with help and maintenance, including winterizing as needed. They are creative, efficient, skilled and dedicated to their craft.

Doug and the Arktikos crew took our 24X20 cabin and turned it into a two-bedroom, 1.5-bath house with a dining room and third-floor, four-direction-facing sunroom along with a tuck-under garage. The construction process allowed us to remain at home for all but a few days during which part of the new construction was joined to the original structure. Doug was able to take our very basic instructions and turn them into a very comfortable and distinctive home in which we have spent more than a decade. He worked very closely with sub-contractors who handled the solar-electric and related portions of construction. The craftsman details that Doug and the crew created inside and outside provided a home that allows us to live well in an off-grid lifestyle that fits in the North Woods on the hills above Lake Superior.
