“A soaking tub was a must, as Lucy is an avid reader and likes to escape to the bath to enjoy a good book and a glass of wine while soaking,” Weihs says. She tucked the soaking tub into the exterior corner so that they can enjoy the views across it from the rest of the bathroom. The door to the left leads to a deck outside." GOOD IDEA!
2018 trend: Contemporary and transitional style. This isn’t a new flash in the pan as much as a style trend that continues to grow. Contemporary and transitional (halfway between contemporary and traditional) bathrooms tend to have a neat and tidy built-in appearance, in contrast to fussier traditional styles. All the clean lines and simple surfaces are easy to keep looking crisp and clean. This leads many people to go a bit more contemporary in their bathroom design choices than in other rooms of the home, even if the rest of the space is quite traditional.
Shades of gray. Expect to see many bathrooms in the coming years skipping brighter colors and instead focusing on shades of gray, with fresh white and hints of black all coming together to achieve a peaceful, mature palette. These tones work well with dashes of wood and other natural materials, or on their own
Shower stall. The shower stall is curbless and has a clear glass partition that lets the natural light stream in. There are three niches in here, giving the couple plenty of room for all of their supplies. There is a long bench topped with the same quartz as the countertops. The tile is a handmade ceramic subway tile. Its elongated dimensions update the traditional choice. “It has such a nice texture to it that it really catches the light,” Lovett says. She continued the same tile on the walls around the bathtub. The texture of pebble tile feels great on tired feet. There is a long linear drain along the far wall of the shower floor, another subtly modern touch.
Vanity. To bring some color into the room, the homeowner went with a pleasing blue on the double vanity. Classic touches in the transitional mix are the polished nickel crossbar faucets, the Shaker-style cabinetry and quartz countertops that look like Calacatta marble. Modern touches are the ...countertop edge, the simple globe shapes on the light fixtures and the matte black cabinet hardware.
"People tend to respond to its sleek storage niches. Not every project is lucky enough to have space in the wall cavities available to turn into a niche, but it is usually an option somewhere in the space if you’re willing to have the walls examined to check. This is usually easy during a major renovation when walls are being opened or built from scratch anyway."
