Modified Southwestern style; graceful arch over the upstairs balcony.
Another staircase-wrapped fireplace. this 965 sq. ft. carpenter-gothic has mezzanine den/guest bedroom; 12 ft ceilings would accomodate staircase loft bed with desk etc beneath. Powder room downstairs. Rustic, yet features formal, dining room with window-seat. Quaint yet efficient on a square footprint.
Cosy & elegantl hermitage / writer's den. Great-room and bedroom both have cathedral ceilings. Delightful gabled bump-out window ideal for desk placement corner fireplace / woodstove warms room without wasted space. Tiny laundry & kitchenett are the right size for working without distraction; yet the bathroom and storage are un-cramped and efficient. High ceiling in bedroom and living room would permit graceful chandeliers.
This design avoids much of the inherent space-wasting of the classic A-frame by having straight walls to accommodate the charmingly windowed staircase and half of the kitchen. Wood stove in the living room could, if it had a cook-top as in some of the modern norwegian stoves with glass on three sides, take this cabin into stylish off-grid status. The mezzanine bedroom features a balcony. This is my favoured A-frame vacation home.
Another good two-room cottage design for a writer's retreat. The staircase wraps the fireplace, and a laundry and a powder room are tucked unobtrusively downstairs. I would modify design upstairs by extending shed dormer onto a sleeping balcony over the downstairs porch, changing the windows into french doors.
Windows on 3 sides of bump-out; chandelier over table.
