Deirdre's Ideas
If you can renovate our second floor bathroom so it looks like this, I'll add the shower and change the tub to a smaller one. As long as the tub is able to fit two people (slanted sides on both sides), I think Garry and I can make do. I love the slate floor tiling! So, this picture has me reconsidering the scope of the second floor bathroom renovation.
Super pretty flooring, and lovely flow into the wood lower cabinetry. Nice open wooden shelving acenting the back wall, too. Not a huge fan of the veined granite wall/backsplash, but the more subtle granite (lighter granite) in the side counters is nice. Like the window treatment, sort of floating there to teh left.
Pretty gentle feel to this continuous granite (marble?) counter and backsplash above the matte wood of the lower cabinets. I like that these cabinets don't have handles. I think going lighter on top (with off-white cabinets) and going natural wood on the bottom is really pretty. However, I'm not so keen on the glossy white finish of a lot of the cabinets I see. It would be nice if the finish was more natural for both the lower and upper cabinets.
These veins in the granite are prettier to me. Maybe because they are a softer coloured grey-brown. I love the granite wraps around the edge, so the sides are not cheap white vinyl but beautiful stone. Delicious. The stool-chairs are pretty, too, as is the floor, though I prefer the wood to flow with the light, as in the other kitchen floor I noted. Also, I prefer the darker wood with light swirls. Like water wood.
Love the flow of the flooring and the openness. Don't love the fridge jutting out. Also, maybe thinking more natural wood (without handles?, built/in) cabinetry.
Pretty bowl. Love that natural wood. Also, what's that small cabinet to the left of the bowl? Is it for bread? If so, that's a great idea. It would be great to have a designated place for bread, maybe next to a toaster and coffee area along the west wall-unit beside the sub-zero (none of which exists yet).
I'd like to have this type of unit for my pans and trays and cutting boards, etc. Maybe in a lower cabinet, though, since these can be pretty heavy.
YES!
This would be great for kitchen supplies. But I'd also like a full cabinet to the side of the sink, devoted to garbage, recycling, and biodegradables. Also, I'm hoping we have a water filtration unit under our sink, and a garbage disposal, so I'm not sure how much space we'll have under our sink after that.
Yes, a spice drawer please! Also the garbage cabinet, which I just mentioned in the prior "save box." Think we need closed cabinets, mostly, as I tend to be the only person in the house who thinks about putting things back where they belong, so our shelves tend toward the disorderly.
Yes, good. Excellent!
This looks like a good alternative to the dreaded lazy susan. BTW, I realize I definitely want an entire lower cabinet designated to pull-out garbage, recycling, and compost, as I just cleaned our current garbage cabinet and it is gross.
Garry likes these built-ins, as do I. Could we do something like this with his bed where the window/built-in seating is in this picture? Could be cool, if it's possible.
Banister & floor: cool wood floor and sliding door. Desk and built-ins would be overpowering in our little, angular space, though. Sort of like the banister, from this angle.
Gym/guest-room, playroom: sleek desk/shelving and fold-out couch.
Gym/guest-room/playroom: cool shelving.
Gym/guest-room/play-room: I like the idea of a desk with a tv above it and bookshelves on either side. Given the angles of the side-walls, I wonder how hard it would be to do something like this against the east wall (against which the bed 's headboard is currently positioned). That would leave the west wall for a sofa-bed and the rest of the room for an exercise bike, elliptical and/or treadmill.
Guest-room/gym: Very pretty. Not sure anything like this trundle-bed would work in the space we have against the west wall, as it would be pocketed inside those 45-degree angled walls, but it's an idea. I do like the desk and built-ins, too. This is a more formal look than the stacked-box built-ins, but the desk-space would be welcomed.
Gym/guest room: I like this flooring. Might work for the entire third floor? Seems rugged, somehow, like it could support a treadmill, stationary bike, and a few thousand downward facing dogs! If we went with the box-like builtins on the east wall, we could continue with those under the south-facing window, to form a little storage/kitty-seating-nook. (We're getting two kittens in a few months!) FYI, by "gym" I basically mean a place to do cardio on the treadmill, elliptical, and/or stationary bike while watching tv. By guest room, I'm thinking a high quality sofa bed with a good air mattress. (My sister has one, and it's great!) And by playroom, I'm thinking video games for the kids and quiet-time for the adults.
Gym/guest room/playroom: Something like this might work for the gym/guest room/playroom. I think this kind of shelving could run along the east wall (w/ an area for a TV in the middle of the shelves).
I can see something like this (not the pieces but the layout) in the northeast corner of Garry's bedroom, looking east from the bed, with large full-length windows/French doors on the right side, as you're sitting in the chair.
Garry says this is amazing. He definitely prefers the bed against the west wall, facing east, so the northern and eastern walls can both have windows he can look out of. Personally, I'm not loving the doors on this juliette balcony. I'd rather have French doors that go all the way to the floor.
Garry says he loves these windows. If he can't have a balcony, he'd be happy with windows like this along the northern wall.
Something like this could work, too, if the head of Garry's bed were positioned against the west wall, and the bed protruded into the room, with massive window-doors along the northernmost wall. Might be tricky to insulate, though.
This is super pretty and simple. I love the barn door, too. Wonder if Garry would like it. The earthy woods and beige/creams are nice.
Well that's a pretty little corner. Wonder if something like that could be in Garry's bedroom or in the gym/guest room?
I see Garry's bed positioned like this bed, with the head protruding from the far northern wall of the room, between two ceiling to floor windows (ideally Juliette balcony windows). However, Garry says he'd rather have his headboard against the west wall, so he could look out the north and east windows.
Very pretty staircase. Somehow the wire under the banisters works here. This might work for us.
I sort of like the way this looks, but I'm not sure about the horizontal wire in between the wood. I think I prefer the traditional wood look. I do like these stairs a lot, though.
Pretty treads. These would work going down from the second floor to the basement, and as floating treads going from the 1st to 2nd and from the 2nd to 3rd.
Nice and simple. I like this, but could we have open steps with this type of banister?
Such pretty treads
Gorgeous simple, and strong, though maybe a slightly lighter stain? Not super into the glass railings. They'll be smudged all the time at our house.
Yes, I'm sold on this cabinet sink in one of the bathrooms, probably the second floor bathroom. Also like the subway tiles and smaller white tiles in the shower.
Super cool frosted sliding door and beautiful blue cabinet sink. Love this whole idea of sliding doors for the third floor, with frosted glass sliding doors for the bathroom and guest room/gym, and wood panelled sliding doors for Garry's bedroom. This cabinet sink is stunning, too, and it looks like it has plenty of counter space and storage space. Would love this in the second floor bathroom. (Like the lighting fixtures, too. I think they are the same ones as we have in our second floor bathroom.)
Back to the beautiful blue subway tile. Love how it continues into the shower. Might be great for Garry's bathroom.
Pretty sink/cabinet.
This cabinetry is nice, too. This might work in the second floor bathroom, though I think one single, larger mirror would be nicer than two little ones.
Adore the blue wall tile! So pretty! Wonder if we might even have that in the second floor bathroom, which is currently painted a similar colour?
I would be happy if the third-floor bathroom looked a lot like this, though probably with the toilet across from the sink (vs. beside it). The built in adds a sense of height and the white/grey tile continuity makes the space feel open.
I love this floor tile. I actually like everything about this tiling. The mirror is super pretty, too, though I fear it wouldn't provide any storage for Garry's stuff. Not feeling the dark forged metal fixtures and cabinet trim, though I see it complements the darkness on the tile.
I'm interested in the open shelving idea for the second floor bathroom, maybe where the wall currently angles down (below the current stairs, which will be moved). That would be a great place for plants! If the shelves were more finished, and painted to match the trim, I think it could be super pretty and functional, too.
Cool towel ladder beside the window. Nice pop of blue tile on the wall, too. That might be an interesting way to "define" the upstairs bathroom as a man's bathroom (vs. my pastel-ly lady's bathroom on the second floor). BTW, we really want to keep our current second floor tub, and we don't want a tub in the third floor bathroom. Just a shower.
Very pretty. Afraid the glass would always be fogged up and dirty in our house, though. Love the grey title.
I like the layout of the shower beside the floating sink beside the toilet. Not sure about the wood flooring and wood drawers, though, especially the flooring. I like the lighter tile effect. I do, however, like the drawers and think that would be great for Garry, who often leaves his toothpaste and other creams open after using them. Drawers and a bit more countertop are good for him, I think.
as noted under photo, I like the clean lines of the tile throughout, but think I'd go with a rectangular mirror and steel (vs. bronze) finishes.
Stunning wood stars and flooring. Also cool planter box in the middle of the stairs. I like that idea, if our back yard is big enough to pull it off. (doubt it with the shed, which we were thinking of keeping).
