Digging the ceiling and floor materials here: wood planks, warm black beams, gray tile (or tile like) floor. thoughts? I kinda love this direction for the whole space. AS: I like this, but one question, will it be too much to have wood ceilings in the sun porch if the kitchen has white ceilings? The wood might make it more interesting. SY: I think we'd unify the spaces and give both wood ceilings. AS: the more I think about this, the more I like it. SY: 9/19 So, we love this too, but we've had to shift to white beams and white ceiling. The one beam that in necessary divides kitchen from porch where the house's exterior wall is, and will be substantial, and the kitchen's ceiling is low. Keeping it all white will make the ceiling feel higher, and the beam(s) feel less imposing. I don't want to lose this inspiration image, though! This floor is great, and this is a great overall effect to go for in your someday kitchen - we'll just find other ways to bring in the wood! AS:Ok- thats fine too! and if it doesn't make sense to bring in wood. thats ok too. SY: check.
I'm looking at ceilings, but again, perhaps kitchen goals for color and light? Showing here white on white ceiling with planks instead of smooth drywall. AS: Painted planks or wood planks work for the ceiling. We don't need dry wall. Yes, I like the color. Also, I like painting under the breakfast bar (or whatever its called). SY: You mean the green paint back in the sink nook? As: I mean the orange where the blue seats are. I also like the green. SY: coming back to this image because I think we need to go with white beams and white ceiling, as the beam is low that has to divide kitchen from porch where the house's exterior wall is. The white will make them feel less imposing on the space. AS: I think the painted wood will still make it more interesting than dry wall SY: agreed.
just thinking about a someday kitchen remodel that opens up your kitchen footprint into the addition a bit, but the ceiling transition is what is proving sticky. It would go from flat to vaulted like this in the middle of the kitchen, and you need a beam across that opening to hold up the existing roof.: AS:I like these beams. Also, yes I see what you mean about the cieling levels. SY: Check.
just saw this and thought of a dining fixture for you :) As: ooh, yes, I like it!
