Melody's Living Room
Glenn LOVES wood grain. I'm really trying to incorporate as much as possible... It's my white windows that throws me off. This one of the few houses that I really like the mixture of wood tones they used. I know the floors are Hickory and the beams are Douglas Fir stained with Sikkens Cetol Dark Oak. Glenn wants brown leather recliners and and big comfy couches. Nothing formal. Just nice. Just to note : We do not like the fireplace, the color of the walls / shiplap or the white trim around the floor, in this case. But I'm not opposed to lighter floors to make the the dark wood elements pop.
This fireplace design is similar to what we want. We have a giant red oak beam that we want to use for the mantle. In addition, we want our 2 ceiling beams to continue down the wall onto the stone towers. Our firebox is huge so I need to be sure it's scaled properly. Our fireplace will go between 2 large white windows, similar to this, but our wall is flat (unlike this room.) *I don't know what stone I want yet.
