Mumbai Home

When the clients approached us for this project they were clear what they wanted. As the concepts and design briefs were presented we were more concrete on how the overall ambience would be. In Mumbai people pay the cost of moon for a decent living hence every area of the house had to be utilised yet leaving it clutter free. We had a detail tour with the client to see some of his existing old furniture which was quite unique in a way. We had no second thoughts to reuse a few pieces. The pieces once brought on site were selected, carefully dismantled and cut as per the new sizes and proportions. As one enters the house he is welcomed by a lengthy passage of louvers creating a sense of curiosity. The living area has quite a wide spread with a compact dining closer to the kitchen. Creating space is always a challenge in city homes as we have to begin with compromised environment. An area was then created for den room to entertain close friends and guests. Care was taken to maintain a certain material palette throughout the house to give it a warm touch. The master bedroom makes a mark with a blend of modern and primeval, most of the old furniture was brought to use here resulting solid wooden wardrobes. Bedroom 01 has a cosy feel with a customised suspended lamp which adds to the ambience. Nikhil Juvekar Design Associates- Mumbai, India. info@nikhiljuvekar.com
