We painted our wooden floors white !!

My husband had the floors sanded professionally and he then painted them.
We have had the white floors for 5 months and love them, even with 2 dogs and one teenager.
The trick is to treat them as "floors" and not be too precious about them. I mop the floors once a week and sweep every three days or so and they look terrific.

We are in Sydney, Australia... unsure if the following are international brands? My husband used Feast & Watson Floor Paint in White Satin (water based) and then 2 coats of Intergrain clear finish (also water based... so with sunlight the floors won't yellow if you use water based)

Love the look, but I would have started with 2 coats of clear to protect the wood in case future owners want to bring it back.

I'm always encouraging painted floors, especially when the originals are ruined. You've proved how great it can look. I'm going to share your thread right now. Great job!

Do the boards have to be perfectly smooth to achieve that finish?

Re. the finish of floors... yes, floors were sanded back to the raw wood and then painted to achieve this finish.

Brilliant!! Love how fresh it looks. A friend painted her bedroom floorboards a smoky purple and added glitter to the clear coat, never would have considered it but it looks amazing!! Like a dreamscape

great thank you - so you have had your floors painted now for 2 years, would you say they are just as good ??

Hi Cathy, yes floors look just as good.... we did them in December 2013.

When floors were brown.. wood coloured they showed a bit of wear (dog scratches), on the white you don't see the scratches... the white floors still look fresh... the beauty of the painted floors is that if you get heavy wear in certain areas, you can just repaint the floor!!! (ie no sanding... this is a big deal). If you decide to go ahead, I would love to see your before and after photos. Thanks.

Following is how my husband did the floors: We are in Sydney, Australia... unsure if the following are international
brands? My husband used Feast & Watson Floor Paint in White Satin
(water based) and then 2 coats of Intergrain clear finish (also water
based... so with sunlight the floors won't yellow if you use water
    based)

Thank you Lettie - I will be sure to post photos for you to see. Appreciate your input - I think we are 80 percent convinced to go white (with the help of your photos, my partner said yes instantly, will now get some advice on costs etc). Will keep you updated, again thank you isn't this (Houzz) a great tool.
