How to fix up a genuine mid century home with wood paneling

We have just purchased a lovely ranch home, built in 1949 with a lot of cherry colored paneling throughout the house, there is the original kitchen with metal cabinets and more. It’s wonderful, almost like a museum example of mid-century design. We plan to pull up old carpeting and put new flooring in and paint. At this point we don’t want to put a lot of money into refurbishing the place and want to embrace the mid century feel. What kind of flooring to put in to keep with the feel but freshen up the place?

Hi there. Love those museum-like houses! Cork would be another good option for flooring, that would stay true to the mid-century style without competing with your paneling.

You are spot on! I grew up in a mid century house, during the mid century and we had cork floors in a paneled room! I forgot about that!
