under floor ducted air conditioning old home

HI, I am wanting to aircondition the ground floor of an old two(1930) red brick storey home. we are looking at direct underfloor through grates ducted air conditioning for the ground floor with the unit in the garage. We have conflicting views some builders are telling us that this is not a good idea becuase cool air does not rise. Only the floor level would be cooled. we are told fans help but not an altenative. They are suggesting using bulks heads to move the air up to the ceiling with outflows near the ceiling. Being an old house this is not possible in all rooms & it increases the price???

Ceiling or roof ducted to ground floor is not an option - the floor between levels is a concrete slab.

spilt systme would mean at least 2 or more independent systems.

Any comments ideas is underfloor ducted air conditioning thru gates inefficient?

Is there a better way to do this?

which would be more economical?

Hi Rosalie, I agree with your builders that having floor ducts for air conditioning isn't very effective, as the cool air doesn't rise.

If possible, you want to get the outlets higher up on the walls.

Having said all that, it can be done, but just keep in mind it's not as effective and you might not be happy with the results.
